1989 toyota pickup problems

:bang: first off i just want to shoot my truck....1989 yoda .pickup 4x4. 22re EFI ,,, yada yada... Been down since saturday. I was driving it and all was working perfect then it acted like it ran out of gas and shut down... First i checked all the fuses then down with the tank. Put a new Denso fuel pump in it and it still wouldnt crank.. back down with the tank and a test and the denso was apparently bad so back to the parts store.. Got a Bosch... Tested it before the tank went back in this time... Tried to crank it nothing... Disgusted i called and mechanic and a roll-back. He checked and my EFI fuse had blown. The diagram of what size fuses are supposed to be under the hood is ineligible. So he tossed in a 30 and off i went ... made it ohhh about 10 miles and it popped again.. so What size fuse should it be running on? and is there any particular place i should start looking first? thanks
 
you can use a 15 or 20 amp fuse, as you mentioned that the replaced fuse popped again it might be due to faulty EFI relay get it checked and replace if required
 
It is not safe to use a fuse of higher amperage because of the risk of fire. The fuse for the EFI is inside on the driver side is a 15 amp. The ones on the engine bay are 40, 30 and 80 amps (at least in my 85).
The 30 and 40 are close to each other. They are of the square type not like the one inside the cab.

I believe it's 15 AMP. O2 sensor wiring shorting out has been known to cause this.

I'll second that. My 89 died plowing my driveway a few years back. No fuel but it would run if I sprayed ether into the intake. I figured it was the fuel pump. Pulled it out in the freezing cold, tested it and it worked fine. Then I found the fuse... My O2 sensor harness shorted out on the exhaust. Fixed it and it's been fine ever since. Well that part of it anyway.

i do believe the big square fuses run more than just the EFI they are more like the old fusible links, and you can not just pull them out and plug a new one in the wires are bolted to the bottom of them. the EFI fuse is under the dash on the passenger side and from factory is a 15 amp, on an 87. but i have an 85 FSM and it is a 15 amp in it too. and you should keep it a 15 amp.
