or Trade 1988 Toyota 4 Runner with 2009 Car Hauler
I am thinking about selling/trading my 88 Toyota 4 Runner that I have built over the last 4 years. It is IFS and has no lift which keeps the local trails interesting, but don’t let the IFS scare you as it wheels blacks and some reds at the park. This 4 Runner is extremely stable and is a blast to drive. I used to drive this on the highway without issue with a set of 35” Goodyear MT/Rs and it would do 65 mph all day long. I have not had it on the highway since going to 37's as I trailer it now.
Specs are as follows:
- 22RE with approximately 190k, runs well and no leaks - 280k on body and frame (this is the 2nd engine as the first one had a blown head gasket)
- W56 5 speed, pops out of first gear, have bungee to hold in gear for crawling
- Dual transfer cases mated with a 21 spline Trail Gear dual case adapter, Trail Gear 4.7 gears in the rear case and Trail Gear twin stick setup - all rebuilt when assembled
- HD Toyota T-Case mount on crawl box, HD Trail Gear mount on rear case
- BudBuilt Skid plate with 1" drive train lift (Super Beef)
- 1" body lift
- 02 Tacoma TRD E-Locker rear axle with 4.10 gears, less than 75k miles - Offroad Solutions stand alone E-locker harness. I also have a spare elocker housing with both shafts.
- Rear u-bolt flip kit with relocated lower shock mounts
- Longer rear shackle
- Longer Old Man Emu Rear shocks
- Inchworm E-Locker Motor Guard
- 92 V6 brake booster and calipers for better braking
- V6 Radiator for better cooling
- Modified Skid Row Nissan Xterra gas tank skid 3/16" thick
- Corbeau Baja SS suspension seats with Corbeau waterproof seat covers
- 5-point harnesses
- Full DOM Tubing Roll Cage by 4xInnovations tied into the frame
- Trail Gear rock sliders
- Front tube bumper with Trail Gear front winch plate
- Rear tube bumper tied into the frame at 4 points
- Half doors with cup holders and mirror mounts
- Full Hard Doors
- Got Propane vinyl windshield kit (not installed yet)
- Optima Red Top Battery
- Pioneer CD Player, currently not working
- Cobra 75WXST CB Radio
- 5 37" PitBull Rocker tires on 15x8 black steel wheels (best tire I have wheeled yet)
- Bikini Top
- Hi Lift Jack with mount on factory rear roll bar
- Hillside Customs quick releas fire extinguisher mount with extinguisher
- Hillside Customs 22re manifold grill - great for cooking lunch on the trails
The bad:
- Body has dents from wheeling and a recent rollover. I have cut the top off and just run the cage and it works great. Another roof section and windshield frame could be installed, but I never saw a need.
- Rear tailgate is dented from a tree that also took out the rear glass, can get a replacement tailgate if needed, but never saw a need since the gate still works.
4 Runner - $5,250 obo
I also have everything to do a SAS that could be included if the full asking price is given.
Parts for the SAS include:
- 85 Toyota Mini-Truck front axle with IFS hubs to widen track width and to run Tacoma rotors with V6 calipers
- Trail Gear Hysteer kit
- Longfield HD knuckle wiper seals
- Backing plate eliminator
- Rears up front leaf pack, with several other leaf packs to go with
- Ford Shock Towers
- 10” Bilstien 5125 Shocks
- Front Spring Hanger from Trail Gear
- IFS Steering Box mount from Trail Gear
- Front shackles and bolts from Trail Gear
- Front u-bolt flip kit from Trail Gear
- Poly Tie-rod end boots
- F-150 rear springs and hangers for the rear suspension to match the front
- Lower shock mounts to triangulate rear shocks for better articulation
- Two extra sets of knuckles with ARP studs already installed
- Extra set of solid axle lockout hubs
- Extra set of Birfield joints
I also have an FJ60/62 Land Cruiser axle with frenched perches in spring over position and Marlin Crawler HD inner axle seals. With this axle I have 2 4.10 geared 9.5 differentials.
Also have the following:
- IFS front diff that a locker could be installed in or welded
- 23 spline 4.7 input gear - could be used to upgrade the rear case to 23 spline, would just need 23 spline coupler in adapter.
- Stock output shaft
- Motor mounts
- AFM box
- Radiator
- Engine Builder complete timing chain kit, along with head gasket adn head studs ( came with the 4 Runner when I purchase since the original engine had a blown head gasket)
- Front CV and rear regular driveshafts
I also have a 2009 Dively Car Hauler trailer that I use to haul the 4 Runner that I would include. The trailer has around 1500 miles on it and has a fresh PA State inspection. Everything works as it should. I will include the Macs Custom straps, Prodigy P3 brake controller, and a truck box that can be mounted up front as well.
Specs on the trailer are as follows:
7000 lb. G.V.W
3500 lb. Axles
8'6" Overall Width
21 ft. Total Length
6'11" Clearance Between Fenders
Diamond Plate Fenders with Full Inner Panels
8" Fender Height above Runways
*Will Clear Most Car Doors*
Diamond Plate Runways 19.5" wide x 15’ long
4" Channel Steel Frame
5' Slide Out Diamond Plate Ramps
5' Beaver Tail Dropped 3"
14" 6 Ply Rated Tires
10" Electric Brakes on both axles
16" Loading Height
Dropped Rear Crossmember for Clearance
Safety Chains
2000 lb. Post Jack (Set back to Clear Tailgate)
4 Key Holes
2 5/16 Ball Coupler
7 Way Bargman RV Plug
Break-A-Way Kit
LED Lighting
Anti-Rust Sealer & Black Enamel
Trailer - $2,000
The 4 Runner has to sell before the trailer or with the trailer. I am located in Marysville, PA and have clear title in my name for both the 4 Runner and the trailer. I don't need to sell, but I am looking at possibly getting out of wheeling due to family and work schedule. Too many things going on with the kids getting older and into extra curricular activities.
I am looking to get $5,250 obo for the 4 Runner by itself or $7,000 with the trailer and towing accessories.
Will not sell trailer by itself, unless 4 Runner sells first.
This is a turnkey setup ready to go have fun with. Let me know if you have any questions. May also be interested in a trade of just the 4 Runner for something different - little more tube, flexy something to get into comps with - who knows.
Here is the build thread on the board that has more pictures.
