???????

Logic aside, the 6.2 has a reputation for being a reliable motor, but not particularly efficient or powerful. It may be possible to get 20 mpg, but I'd expect to get around 14-16 in an extended cab.

Why are you getting one of these after just selling your superduty?

Quite a bit, my current suburban has one in it.

They are a pretty efficient motor in terms of mpg but not a very powerful one. They can be turbo'd very easily.

If you can drop the pan just check for cracks in the bearing supports. It's a crap shoot on which batch you get.

If that is fine and you get it get a fluid damper harmonic balancer to replace the stock one.

All in all they aren't bad motors but they are light duty diesel motors nothing like a cummins, duramax or a power stroke.

X2. Without turbocharging sluggish at best.

Sold the super duty to free up some funds and it was starting to have issues.

I was looking for a cheapy truck to pull some mowers behind in a trailer. I just happened to run into this one. Truck is mint! Has been repainted, new tranny, interior looks new. This truck has been taking care of. Probably belonged to an old man.

I know the 6.2 is not a power house. Not looking for hp or speed.
Do you think it will pull the 40 on a car trailer easily?

What trans? What rear end gears.

It will but I wouldn't do it without a turbo.

Its an auto. Not sure on gears. I'm going to look at it tomorrow.

Anything I should look for?

Al how much is a turbo kit?

If I remember correctly there were two auto trans available that year.
700R4 or the TH400, the 400 is a stronger trans and better for towing but only a 3 speed with no OD the 700R4 is not as strong but has a good OD in it.

Look for Cracks in the main webbing if they will let you drop the pan. Being a later year model most likely it isn't that likely as a earlier one.

Mods for more power are Stan's Headers and modifying the air intake for more airflow since they are restricted from the factory.

If it is a C code and not a J code engine swap the ER restricted intake manifold for a non egr J code one.

you can also get the turbo, turbo manifold and intake manifold from a 6.5 diesel from a junk yard and throw it on.

Or buy a premade kit from Banks

One thing to remember is that 6.2 diesels can be bought for a few hundy so if the motor is bad a new one can be had easily. Parts for the truck and the motor are dirt cheap, hell a rebuilt injector pump can be had for about 2 bills.

I have friend who was a mechanic in the Marines when these motors were just introduced in the HUMV and CUCV so naturally he loves them as he is very familiar.

He would argue as others have said that although not fast, they get the job done, are reliable and get good MPG.

Most of the time when you buy a Diesel truck new or used it's going to take a while before you save any money because of the higher purchase price of the Diesel. These GM trucks are affordable enough that can you buy them cheap enough to save money right away.

I will post some pics up after I test drive tomorrow.
The trucks main purpose will be to pull a trailer with mowers on it. Maybe pull the 40 someday.

Anybody install a turbo on one of these? Is it easy? Or do I need johnny, martin and jerry to fab and weld crazy s*** up? :)
