what about the Engine Watch Dog, I think it's called? sensor bolted to a bolt on the block or bolt holding down the thermostat housing? set a temp limit and it will go off when the bolt gets to that temp when you have lost coolant and the block is going to over heat. I am using this on my 12HT, when I first installed it I had to play around with what temp I wanted the warning to go off.

I have one of those hooked up to my auber right now. I hooked up the coolant inline sensor just to see how it correlated to actual coolant temps.

I’m going to have to check it all again this upcoming summer to test temps again.

Redarc makes a low coolant alarm, mounts in the bottom of the rad or lower rad hose in a T adapter, has an output for external visual/audible as well so it would be easy to add a warning light in an unused spot in the cluster. I've got one but haven't gotten around to mounting it yet..

Zero tech yet again… it’s been pretty much sitting since we had some ice/freeze and they salted the roads and I didn’t want to drive in that.

Today it’s 65 degrees although one of the 70 series biggest adversary’s is happening. Wind. Big wind today. Yuuuuge wind.
Now the superior 70 series has only a very few adversaries…like wind and only wind, well maybe also hills, ok and also altitude, rust, interstates, potholes, grooves in the road, cold weather, California dmv, parts supply/availability in the US…

I digress. Drove into town to get plates on the cruiser. I now know what it’s like to drive behind a 70 series. Slow, stinky and tossing rocks behind.

Anyway, get my plates any asked do you want to pick a number? The numbers reset so we have all sorts of low numbers we never get. Sweet, they have J74!

Get my plates, $42.00 later and I sit them down on the table to admire my semi custom plates.

How in the world did I miss Biggus Dickus on the background of my plates?

Apparently…it’s The Genius of Creative Energy. It depicts the chariot driver harnessing the powers of wind, Earth, fire and water. said it illustrates the creativity of Nebraskans in developing businesses and creating inventions such as the center-pivot irrigation system.

All I know is my cool J74 plate is a bit extra…

Hello,

Is it legal to airbrush a plate? Just curious.

Juan
No, you’re not supposed to alter a license plate.

I suppose even drilling holes to match the bolt spacing from overseas is frowned upon.
They can frown all they want. I did it anyway. If the choice is drilling holes in the plates or in my car, it's gonna be the plates.

As @OGBeno states, always buy grey market 70 cruisers. Parts are everywhere, never NLA, nothing breaks, they keep up with modern traffic, make money when you sell and you never have to rely on a secondary Prius to get somewhere…

On the 13bt, the vacuum pump is on the back of the alternator. It has oil supply and return. I was starting to get a drip of oil on the floor which is a trigger for me to tear something apart and fix it because I haven’t driven it for a week…

So the leaking was coming the hose right here

That’s the oil return hose from the vacuum pump.

Shocking, it’s NLA…

Mine is brittle and appears it was leaking somewhere in the middle and draining down.

Thankfully it’s a fairly common banjo fitting, 14mm, but unfortunately here in the country, no one can make these. Which seems really odd considering all the farming around. I live in the middle of a corn field. The closest place I can find is over an hour away and only open when I’m at work….

As you can see, it’s a banjo on 1 end, slip fitting on the other with just a clamp. So it’s low pressure. It appears I can order various banjo fittings online with a plethora of ends.

Threaded, barbed, press fit, AN, twist lock,

Now I’m not an engineer but is there any reason I can’t just get a barbed banjo fitting and clamp the hose on it? It’s not quite as fancy or as nice as the pressed fitting, but should be strong enough?
The other option could be a 14mm elbow into AN or compression, but is that overkill?

Any other online hose companies that people have used?

Throwback photo to warmer days…

I don't see why the barbed fitting wouldn't work with the correct hose. Similar use case to a turbo oil return line, I had mine come apart a few years back so I cut off the hydraulic fitting, slid the hose back on the hard line and stuck a couple of hose clamps on it (backcountry repair job at the time). Ran with it that way for over a year with no issues.

For a cleaner look you can get a crimp on hose clamp similar to what is used on PEX plumbing lines.

Yeah I figured it should be a fairly easy fix, just depending on how nice I want it to look. I like the pex/sprinkler line clamping thought, I need one of those anyways.

I've actually used a pex crimp tool on a VW CV boot clamp before, it worked great.

ya mines leaking too, id go with the an AN style as you get a threaded compression on the hose/barb
No? more leak proof....

I bought the very last vacuum pump in the world wide Toyota distribution pipeline 10 and a half years ago. At that time employee cost was over $740.00 US.

The inner bag is still sealed.

After inflation, yours today is ~$1,200.00 US.
