I received a few responses back to the posting, so I figured I would post a general description and go from there.

I bought a 1983 HJ60 back in feb of this year from this seller - overall the truck has proved to be very solid after many hours of help from Safari in Grand Junction, CO (thanks Hugh!)

That aside I would encourage anyone interested in a vehicle from this seller to request specific photos of what you would like to see rather than depending on the sellers word. I was slightly frustrated when I asked about paint, rust, EDIC and a few other items to learn they were as I suspected. I could write a book on what was expected versus what was received, but the highlights are as follows:

- I asked many times to see if the truck was road worthy enough to drive from CA to CO, the same answer I got many times was that it will be fine and the truck is in fine mech shape. After picking the truck up in Long Beach, I barely made it to SOR where I had to have the front end rebuilt, a recon radiator put in and a few other items. (thank you to all for the help on such short notice!) I then made in into Utah where I lost the bypass hose.

- I asked if the truck had original paint, was misled on that too. It has had a bad respray and there was rust in the usual spots. Luckily not too bad though.

With regards to shipping, I picked my truck up in Long Beach and I am happy to say that the whole process went very well ( Wallenius Wilhelmsen). The shipping even took place during the major earthquake in Japan which impacted shipping schedules etc. further, I would advise using a broker unless you are are very familiar with the process. In my opinion the money is well spent in order that you get your truck on time with minimal hassle and it may help ensure that you end up with the correct paperwork. Also you can track the boat as it comes across on a website, (vessel tracker I think )

Overall the communication was decent between this seller and myself. I just think one needs to be very careful and ask for as much info as you can ahead of time and if you are not comfortable with the info you get, pass on the sale.

Lastly, there are others who have purchased from this seller if you google him on MUD to get their opinions.

Best,
Andy

Great stuff Andy!

So does the seller include shipping like he is saying on Ebay?

And me personally, I would expect some issues with a 25+yr old Cruiser. Also for the price, I would expect some issues. Now if it was a $20,000 truck I would be pretty upset if it came with a bunch of problems.

I definitely agree, I fully expected problems given the of the truck, etc - it is just a bummer to get bad info on top of other problems. Also, I was a little upset when I picked the truck up as there was a fair bit of rubbish in the cruiser.

With regard to shipping and assuming it's the same deal I got, shipping is included in the price to one of three major ports in the US. (be advised the shipping will take +\- 6 to 8 weeks) from NZ.

I added a few photos on the following link, hope it works!

Well man if he is including shipping....that shaves off $1500-$4000 of the price tag.

So honestly it seems like an even better deal. 6-8 weeks is not long at all, 6-8 months is a bit more of a wait.

I hear ya about the rubbish and stuff like you having to get things fixed before you could drive it home. A bit disappointing. But heck man $2-5k for a decent diesel high roof 60 with a FF rear and an H55 that is not a total piece of junk seems like a screaming deal to me. I bet you could buy that truck, import it, fix any small issues and flip it on Ebay for double your money and still be giving the buyer a good deal! Just look at what people are selling the H55, 2H and FF rear axles for. Heck I would be willing to wager just the 5spd, FF rear and non-USA items would be worth $3k or more as long as they are in good shape.

I posted the link because I thought it was a good deal, especially with shipping included. So often you come across Cruisers especially non-USA ones where people think it is worth it's weight in gold or a trying to make $20k on it.

I know we are not supposed to chat here but....

FYI, there is an 86 HJ61 on TradeMe right now that is under $4k nzd current bid with reserve met. It looks somewhat clean and has all the goodies (12HT, H55, FF rear, high roof, sunroof, ect) plus factory cable lockers. The auction ends on Friday for that one....
