All of his correspondence reads like a form letter - no specific info, no mention of a "land cruiser". Who talks like that? Too many details are too good to be true - ie. free shipping. That and the input from other mudders adds up to a scam. People who do these types of scams try to make it a easy as possible with "no hidden fees" so that your desire for a thing outweighs your common sense and you make up your mind to go through with it. They are very smart and will never reveal their true identity. It's a game to them - once they think they have you thinking with your heart rather than your head they will tell you anything to keep you "on the hook".

There is a pattern to these ads. See if any of the following sounds familiar:
I just last nite got an email from a seller on an '83 FJ40 that is/was on Ebay I had asked about.
Unbelievable offer to--- just me--- for $3300, and it's an absolutely perfect truck according to the info--now even includes shipping and insurance!
This one's from a girl named Katrina, first time seller with no history, uses Photobucket for photos, even says she works at ebay.
This vehicle is in South Pasadena, California.
Like all the others I've experienced from these folks, first letter asks for my full name and shipping address. The second letter will give you an email account of a neutral holder to send the money to, where the title will then change hands.
When you write back, the seller will tell you they are not in the same location as the truck. By now, the listing has been pulled off Ebay with no explanation from Ebay. The seller will respond that Ebay couldn't accept the serial number, or there was a typo, or some minor error in the write-up. When you press for a physical street address of the location, usually you are told there is some type of snag in showing the truck.
Earlier this year, for an orange-brown FJ45 pickup, I actually got an address for the truck in a tiny town way out in the boonies in rural Northern California. I researched and found a part-time real estate office sits at that location, found and called the business across the street asking if they ever saw such a truck in their area, and finally got a call back from the real estate office. Of course, everyone knew nothing about any truck.
I have in the past contacted directly the Ebay security department and had several telephone conversations with Ebay, but I don't think they have the ability to catch these creeps. I was told there are some scammers from Nigeria, but the language and spelling are improving with each scam, so these ads are getting harder to spot. We probably now have Americans using this method too. They steal an Ebay newbie's account info and merge it with photos from someone else's listing. One tip-off is they can never provide additional photos, since they don't have the truck in their possession.
Anyway, my bottom line is: unless you know about a seller from several very reliable sources---------- GO SEE THE TRUCK. If the seller cannot physically show it, then he/she isn't really serious about selling anything. I know the allure--it's cheap, excellent condition, includes shipping, the seller is desperate to sell, talks about security and offers to escrow it thru Ebay.

He told me that although the pics were of the guy's vehicle whom he's bought a vehicle from in the past, it's not the same guy and thereforre a scam.
Yeah, I've had the feeling all along, but as it was said by Bear above, we all wish we could get that barn-find!
