Hi folks,

I had previously hunted for the elusive clean FJ40 in Saudi Arabia with not much luck, so eventually I settled for a FJ60. It's a 1982 so parts are really difficult to find as most parts out there are 1984 and newer, and parts on SOR, CCOT, Cruisercorps are for the US models which are slightly different from the non-US models.

So I was wondering if anyone here knows where in Saudi Arabia I could find interior parts and trims. Specifically, I am looking for the dash panel trim, seat-belt pillars, rear view mirror, side-door grabs (similiar to the FJ40, not the armrest types), fuse box cover, jump seat straps. I am in Riyadh but it doesn't matter if I need to travel to other regions if I can find the parts!

Also, anyone knows a mechanic who knows the FJ60 well here in Riyadh? I am getting frustrated with my current mechanic - a valve job has taken 3 weeks and it is still not done!

Thanks!

Not sure if it is the same over there but most parts for the FJ60 series were the same across most years from 81-87 so you should be ok with some of your 84 or newer parts. In 88 they changed to the FJ62 which in the US came with the 3FE (fuel injected) engine and there were some body changes and a few interior changes.

If you have a few mid to late 80s FJ60s there then I would give those parts a shot!

The interior for the 81 & 82 Non-US versions were slightly different. For example the door panel is very similiar to the FJ40 with grab handles instead of arm rest type handles. The Non-US versions also had a factory dash grab above the glovebox and the rear were fitted with jump seats. Will post pictures in a while. Well for now I guess I'll just drive along some of the older towns outside of Riyadh, apparently FJ40 & FJ60s are aplenty so I might be able to snap up some good used parts for a good price.

Anyway, would anyone here also happen to know what causes a sideways vibration when the car is idle? I just got the car back after a total valve job, meaning all intake and exhaust valves replaced together with their seats, and the engine sounds really lovely now and there is noticeable improvement in power since before this two pistons were not exactly efficient. But while overall vibration has also improved, there is a strange sideways vibration I am feeling now when the car is idle.

Just putting it out here in case anyone has had such experiences and can share any possible solution.

Marv Spector has been buying containers of 40, 45, 55, 60, 62 and more from a huge warehouse of LandCruiser parts in Saudi Arabia. I have seen the pictures and the place is huge and filled with every part imaginable, including complete engines, axles. transmissions, bidy parts, interiors, frames and so much more.

I doubt they would tell you where it is, but I would call or email Spector Off Road and ask them. You are not really their customer base and they might help you.

I don't know where it is in Saudi Arabia exactly, but Marv said it is within 30 minutes of the capitol.

Good luck

Doug

Victorchin,

I have an 84 FJ60 which i converted to a gulf spec cruiser from US spec. I have one parts supplier in Dubai that has everything and more. I can even point you to a scrap yard out in the desert with 2 near complete FJ60's up for parts. The parts store will sell to the gulf but not overseas. I'll pm you the details soon.

Thanks all for the useful information!!

Greg: Yeah I thought of that too, I'll probably just try it for a few more days and bring it back to the workshop if it persists.

Doug: I'll give SOR a shoutout, they might be kind and let me know since I just ordered a handful of parts off them just last week. And damn, perhaps the reason why parts are scarce here is because SOR has gotten their hands on all goods ones!

Bedouin: Yes please do let me know the contact details, it would be easy to fly in for a quick weekend to Dubai if they have all the parts. I considered dropping by Yemen too since that's literally the FJ40/55/60 capital, but the parts there are probably not in the best condition.

Some of us don't consider owning a 60 as "settling"

:p

Totally kidding here!
