Reposted here from the 60 forum - thought I might get more feedback from the diesel folks. Thanks

I saw this truck posted on local listing page. I have not seen many of these in the US.
If its in good shape is it worth $7000 or more?
Are these Diesel's valued the same as regular FJs or worth more?
How hard is it to inspect and register (right hand drive is that an issue?)

Hard to guess from this very limited description.
If it has a 2H engine, it is a HJ60, not a FJ 60.
If in good condition, it is worth 7k, I think.
RHD is legal in the US, but it can be a hassle to bring the truck in. If already in the US, there should be no issues.
read up on the importing threads, they are very onformative. Where is it now? do you have any pictures?
Direct your attention to rust underneath...

Hmmm, a 2H diesel in a 1981?
If it came out of Canada there has been an engine swap.
As far as I know the 2H was sold in the 60 series in Canada from 1986-1989.

Something does not add up.
It's either an engine swap or the wrong year.
Unless there was a typo and its a 2F engine which would be gas.

Personally, I think you are better off to try and find a BJ60.
They have the 4 cyl engine which a lot of people here seem to think is better.
Turbo charge it and it will move!

Cheers,
Nick

Just noticed it was RHD.
So it could be a 2H.
I am not sure.

From what I understand the later model JDM's had the 12H-T, which was a better version of the 2H with a trubo.

Cheers,
Nick

I tried doing some research for you.
I could not find any 1981's with a 2H.

But if it runs good, and is as clean as most other JDM stuff, then $7000 seems good to me.

Cheers,
Nick

I am pretty sure we had HJ60's with the 2H engine allready in 1981. According to EPC the 2H was found in HJ60 from August 1980.

If you could get the info off the alumium plate on the firewall it would some indication of what it is and where it come from.
This is all about engine condition providing everything else is legit.
You dont want to have to rebuild this engine as it will be close to the purchase price.

Australia and Japan had the HJ60 4sp in that year and Japan had the HJ60 at least until 89 ,I was looking at a JDM version last week.

Also I think he 12HT was introduced with the 5 sp in 84 but only because I have never seen a 4sp 12HT or a pre 84 12HT.

thanks

Thank you all for your feedback. Of course i was very excited to go see the truck but the seller has not called back. Must have gotten a nice offer right off the bat?

If i get to check it out I will we post.

Thanks.

The 2H did come in the 60 series that early on, I looked at buying a 1982 HJ60 from Japan that had all the basic options that US/Canadian spec Cruisers had, manual windows, 5spd manual trans (okay, not available in the US).

Canadian Diesel Cruisers came with the 3B but the 2H was available in most other countries, and since it is RHD it is most likely not a diesel swap.

Get the motor compression and leak down checked, if the motor is still in good shape and the body isn't rotten (which in my opinion is more important than most mechanical issues due to the expense and difficulty of repair) then I'd say that 7K isn't too far off the mark.

Make sure that you check the body well though, don't assume that the body is in good shape because someone tells you that it is from Japan (it might not be though). I've seen Japanese cruisers just as rotten in Japan as over here. Be just as diligent when looking for bondo/fibreglass!

"As far as I know the 2H was sold in the 60 series in Canada from 1986-1989."

I thought 86 and 87 were the only years the 2H was sold in Canada with diesel engines not being sold after that.

I have a 2H 1981 HJ60 left hand drive. It was originally sold new in Central America.

I have a 2h modified (turbo and 5speed) that I'm selling the trick is that you'll have to get it from Panama it is a LHD and an 1985 model the price is U$3500 contact me for the pics at bbto3r@gmail.com
If you rather have an HDJ 80 with either a 1HZ or a HD-T engine I could find you one.

cheers Cesar
