I bought this cruiser several years ago and it had an amateur body off "restoration" including a rebuilt engine, replacing missing nuts and bolts, new shocks, assorted suspension parts, new lines and hoses, temporarily serviceable home made paint job, etc. I towed it home just to be safe and did or had done the following:
replaced all fluids
drained and cleaned radiator
tightened all front end and other nuts and bolts some of which were loose
replaced incorrect carburetor with correct carb
fixed exhaust leak
replaced leaking right front brake cylinder
some zerks were plugged with screws (i know, hard to believe) so i replaced screws with zerks
correctly re-routed all vacuum lines which the "restorer" had seemed to have just attached in no particular order
the "restorer" said that he wasn't a wiring guy and he was right. straightened all of that out and now all lights, turn signals, heater fan, and even the cigaret lighter works and it's ready to plug in a radio
replaced silly BMW front seats with primo condition stock seats. although very comfortable, the BMW seats were so high that you had to bend over to see overhead traffic lights not to mention that it made the rear view mirror unusable if you wanted to see anything more than 10 feet behind you.
replaced silly teeny steering wheel with stock steering wheel which, due to the stock seats there was now room for. and now the horn works.
replaced ridiculously wide hard to change wheels with stock wheels which allowed me to replace old square tires with tires appropriate for stock wheels. I'm a stock kind of guy.
it has all new glass, and window and door seals
new alignment
all gauges work
it's a four speed, shifts smoothly, and has power steering and brakes.
i've had a lot of fun with this truck and put about 3,000 mostly road but some off road miles on it. It runs straight and true at 65 mph (at least on the flat) and it's ready to roll.
it's a California/Arizona vehicle with absolutely no rust, rot, diamond plate, or dents which makes it an excellent candidate for a more serious restoration if you're into garage queens (and if you are, just don't tell me.)
(i just hosed it off for some quick pics before the sun went down and as soon as i find that 12 year old kid again with the hand held device i'll try to get some pics more up)
asking $30,000

For that kind of coin you should replace the "restorers" silly black bumper and put some new turn signal lights on it.

They're on the list. i just thought things like zerks where zerks belong and other similar tasks were a little more important. But i truly value your heartfelt comment.

Perhaps you could re-read your post from a potential purchasers point of view. You spent half of your words bashing the previous guys work than detailing important things: mileage, compression numbers, service history or even your mechanical background. I am left wondering what else has been neglected or worse, installed incorrectly, that you hadn't caught in the short time you've owned it. Just saying you have a nice rig but the sale thread detracts from it.

Yep, the thread isn't perfect, never sold a truck before. I am also NOT a mechanic. I had all the previous work done run by Bill Porter who is a long time master mechanic who repairs, tears apart, and rebuilds cruisers and is a nit picker of the first order. He even owns a couple of fj40s himself. He did the initial run through and identified what needed to be done some of which i would never have noticed let alone figured out. Anything that was not simple, he did and I have all receipts for parts and labor. Among other things, he's the wiring wizard who redid the wiring and the guy who recognized that the carburetor was the incorrect one.
This truck is not my daily driver and when i get back up to Flagstaff, a hundred miles away where i keep the truck, i will post more info and pics. I posted this just to get the ball rolling. So, if you cut me some slack and give me a few days to work on getting what even i know is important like exact mileage, compression numbers, etc THEN i'll work on the perfect post.
Thanks for your patience.
