So I bought this truck a couple of years ago. I looked for eight months and finally found a1978 45. I bought it in BC. I spent 24K getting into Colorado. I had Robbie Antonson@ Adventure offroad (Tech editor for Toyota Trails) build me a 3FE. Absolutely NO shortcuts. I used ALL Toyota parts. Everything I could buy new from Onur, I did. I ported and polished all the fuel-injected manifolds and head. I sandblasted and clear-coated all parts meticulously. I put hundreds of hours making every part just right. I think I have around six hundred hours into this, excluding what Robbie and Bill did. This engine is: ported and polished, all parts balanced/blue-printed and for cryogenically treated longevity, bored .005 over standard, I think(not a machinist). I upgraded all parts to modern standards, all Toyota: alternator, starter, Ignitor and coil, Oil cooler, clutched radiator fan to FJ62 era etc...New Toyota Radiator, Oil pan, Etc...restored all wire-harnesses (35+hours alone)
Robbie built a split-case late model transfer case
I bought a brand-new H55 five speed transmission.
rebuilt drive lines
ARB locking diffs.
Optima deep cycle
New rear disk-brakes, Four wheel dick brakes.
Dakota digital instrument gauge (35+ hours@ $90/H to install) Gauge itself $900
Bill put so much effort into splicing the FJ62 harness with the FJ45 cowell harness and went through all electrical harnesses.
I bought the same 17" rims that come on the ICON'S (Blackrock Yuma's) and 34" BFG Mud Terrains. ($2800) x5
Warn 8274 winch.
Aqualu bed ($6500)
Aqualu cab ($4500)
New glass
new exhaust system and cat, ($920)
Custom fuel talk from Road-runner fabrication ($960)
about 5K miles on everthing
Basically I paid 24K to get the truck here, I paid Robbie @offroad unlimited 24K, I spent around 8K in parts outside of all of that.
This truck needs body work perfection/paint,,,maybe a new hood.
I just moved to Maui and am convinced this truck will get stolen in a matter of hours, otherwise I would NEVER sell it. I used to be a mechanic and this has been my dream truck for twenty five years. It also happens to be my life savings. I have around 55K and maybe eight hundred hours. It needs paint and maybe suspension in my opinion. Best realistic offer.
