I bought that one last summer. It might be the one my dad had when I was a kid since it's the same year, color, and is a NM truck.

Well, it’s in. Need to devise a bump stop for the back and some way of connecting the rod to lift so that I don’t have to cover the last part by hand. I’ve been thinking about a permanent adapter rod that goes on top of the tire and that I can connect to more easily. More novice engineering. We’ll see.

Is this a thing? I beat on that bolt from under the 40 assuming that it was rusted to the hangar. I was wrong, the pin is stuck to the rubber grommet. Ended up cutting the pin to get the leaf spring out. And still can’t get the left over out of the spring!

It will come out if you put it on something solid on the backside of the grommet. You'll never get it out swinging at it the way it's sitting. You need a press ideally.
 
Drill a few holes through the bushing and you'll be able to tap it out easily.
