HI Everyone,

I used to be on the forum about 10 years ago when my fj45 was still on the road.
It has been in storage the past few years and I finally had a chance to bring it back to life and get it on the road again over the winter.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to redo the exhaust - tail pipe on the '45? There doesn't seem to be an OEM part avail and I'm wondering in anyone can help with a good solution.

I have attached photos of the truck as it sits now. The last photo is where I could use the help - I have trimmed the exhaust pipe just under the cab and not sure what to do from here....
I will post some more photos as I get back to work on it now that it's warming up. Thanks in advance.

Welcome back!!
You can still get a 40 series (01/79-84) muffler and tailpipe from Mr T. (17430-61120, PIPE ASSY, EXHAUST, TAIL).
If you used the Toyota muffler and some of the pipe I'm sure you could get a good exhaust shop to fab up something that looks correct.

The muffler resides at the front of the box, driver's side, and is a round one with off-set input and output pipe. The tailpipe then runs up over the axle and does a 90 to exit about 8" behind the driver's side rear wheel.
If your box is stock you will see the connectors for the exhaust system supports.
There should also be a heat shield above the muffler IIRC.

I don't think there are any stock exhaust parts still available for the 45.

Check out some of the 45 build threads. There are a number of good examples in some of them.

That looks like a stack of veneer on the shelves beside your truck. You must be a cabinet maker.

TEQ...muy cool

The flange is the wrong shape for a '77 but that's an easy fix.

Flange on my 11/78 FJ40. Can't see a reason they'd use a different one on a 45 of similar vintage.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I'm probably going to grab an old FJ40 muffler off someone here in Toronto and then try and figure out the tail pipes etc as I go along. I was hoping that there was a kit avail that I hadn't known of but all good this will work!
