I have a 4 speed 5 speed and a 3 speed at home, decided to stick with a 4 speed transmission on the fj40 …. H55 5 speed is nice but I think I’ll stick with the original 4 speed for the build, I think the 5 speed would be perfect for a fj62 / or a v8 conversion etc
Redoing the seals & gaskets, all the bolts have been zinc plated & cleaned up too
Any advice on the build is always appreciated

More paper towels. No, more than that

You’re doing a really nice job on this…that zinc plating always looked great to me… keep it up, I love this. 1974 was my very first new car…a horizontal blue FJ40. Gee whiz, that will be 50 years ago this October..!

That’s awesome! I realized a trick I didn’t know, the plating companies don’t clean the parts good enough so when I gave them like the cover with the little dots on it they say they acid Dip it but it doesn’t come out that clean, so I gotta clean the parts before plating so it can come out even better

Are you planning on putting the air injection rail back on?

The look of those yellow zinc plated nuts and bolts is so excitingly fresh looking. Are you doing this yourself?

I read thu this online and wonder if it’s worth trying

New oil pan & bolts, I decided to repaint the new pan one more time & also rubber texture the bottom where rock chips happen & then it starts to rust

I’m sending back the Omtech laser welder and ordered a miller mig / tig welder 🇺🇸 going to start on the body soon

No currently I take them to automation plating in Glendale but couple parts didn’t come out as clean as I hoped so I might start doing it myself especially with an fj62 project I have as well

I hope you used ni-cop tubing for brakelines and not just plain copper tubing.

I love everything, it's gorgeous...
...except the strap on the crank pulley
