I have a friend that is going to go look at a 1972 FJ40 that is all stock (except wheels have been changed). It has a hard top and is supposed to be in fair/decent condition. With the 3 spd, 4 wheel drum brakes, and the smaller motor, its not as prized as the 76 and above models. Original tan paint, maybe some rust = originated in Washington State. He is trying to find out the miles on it - one of those friend of a friend deals that a guy with some money doesnt want to keep it around anymore cause he doesnt use it much. Not having A/C sure helps that situation im sure. He hasnt advertised it yet from what Ive heard, just came up in conversation.

I know it's not alot to go on, BUT...for you guys that are knee deep into 40's, what is a decent buying price range for an average stock 40 of this vintage?

Low.

Without pics....not much to go on.

I paid $3800 for my 71 and it had the stock F engine, 3-speed, but upgraded ManAFre front disk kit, small lift, etc. and no rust so $3500 or so seems fair. If it has rust the price should drop a LOT.

When buying this old it is mainly about rust. If it has rust you don't know how bad it is. Most things on a drive train can be updated pretty easy if there are bad. Just bolt on parts. Not so with the tub. I paid under $2K for a 61 with a rusted rear sill last year and that was only bebause it had the correct for that year PTO winch.

This one took over a year before it sold. It was only listed in the CSC's forum. 07 was better times than it are now.

The tub would have to be real clean and uncut for me to go anywhere near $3500 on a 72.

I bought my '68 factory soft top about 10 years ago and it sounds much like this one. Mine was a Washington State vehicle that only spent about 6 months there before moving south. Pretty much all stock when I bought it with no rust at all. I paid $2900 for mine.
