I am considering purchasing a set of 17" FJ Cruiser aluminum wheels. What is the largest 17" tire I can put under a stock suspension on a 96' FZJ80? Second question if I purchase a 5th wheel will it and the large tire recommended fit in the stock spare position? Thanks in advance!

Searching will net you tons of results. Long story short though, doesn't matter if it's a 15", 16", 17", or 20" rim, the same diameter tire will fit. Cliff notes version is 33" easily, or 35" with some minor rubbing.

33" will fit in the stock spare location. It may rub against some stuff, so just watch for that.

I suspect you could get a 35" up in there with some work, but there would be some concern of it being too close to the exhaust, so you might need to fab a heat shield.

Ditto on the 33" tire max in the stock spare location, and that should be a good size with stock suspension. I ran some 33's on my FJ Cruiser wheels when I first put them on, before I lifted it. They fit well, look nice and do not rub.

Also, with the FJ Cruiser wheels, you will want to run some wheels spacers. I run 1.5" spacers at each corner and it puts the tire right at the edge of the fender flare, looks perfect.

This pic is with the FJC Wheels and 1.5" spacers.

Its not the exhaust but the distance between the panhard rod and the rear crossmember. 295/75r16 (33.5") will fit a 315 will not from my experience. My spare now takes up 1/3 of my cargo area until I can afford a proper rear bumper.

35x12.50R15 BFG fits

But, hangs too low
