On a couple of occasions I have run limited amounts of bio-diesel in my BJ74 and before the tank is depleted the fuel / water separator will activate the fuel filter light. Every time I check the fuel / water separator, it doesn't contain any contaminants or water so I assume the higher viscosity of the bio-diesel is the culprit.
My question, can the electrical circuit that activates the fuel / water separator light be temporarily disconnected without affecting the same warning system associated with the fuel filter?
Thanks.....

I'm no expert, although I work within petroleum industry and the feedback we hear from tech teams regarding bio is that they tend to block up fuel filters and impede and damage injectors, the filters tend to get spiderweb lace which is a build up from the bio, hence why bio not used widely in oz, as the majors cannot confidently safeguard, evolving technology and improvement will overcome this, but my understanding the bio is still a grey area?

Thanks for the information however the quality of the bio-diesel isn't the issue here. I am simply trying to find out from folks smarter than me if the fuel / water separator can be removed from the protection circuitry (amber light inside) without degrading the same protection if there is issues with the fuel filter. I assume the amber "fuel filter" light oversees the integrity of the entire fuel system.

What do you mean by "limited amounts of bio-diesel"? I've used B20 with no problems, year round for many years in a 13B-T, in a climate that ranges from 30 below to 30 above and averages around zero for most of the year.

"I assume the amber "fuel filter" light oversees the integrity of the entire fuel system."

No, it only connects to the sensor in the water trap/sedimenter.

Biodiesel will clean the built-up crud from a fuel system and thus deposit it in the filters. Many people misunderstand this and blame the biodiesel.

If you choose to use biodiesel then add one of these inline filters between the sedimenter and the lift pump. The easiest place on the '74 is just after the sedimenter.

I have probably run less than 20 gallons of bio-diesel through the 13B-T. I have run a couple of thousand gallons through my HJ75 which of course does not have a fuel / water separator and I have done so without issue. When I run bio through the 13B-T the fuel filter light will illuminate before the tank is empty even though there is absolutely no contaminates in the unit. I assume the difference in viscosity is the culprit.
I simply want to remove the separator from the fuel system while maintaining the fuel filter light to monitor the fuel filter.

The "filter light" only connects to the sensor in the sedimenter/water separator. Unplug the sensor if the light bothers you.

The "filter light" DOES NOT monitor the fuel filter.

DO NOT bypass or remove the sedimenter/water separator especially if using any biofuel.

Wow, I would have lost that bet. Thanks for the information.
