Landcruiser Double D shackles, the ‘sexy’ shackles
Mark’s Off Road Marks Off Road Home Page is proud to introduce the newest concept in heavy duty replacement parts for your Toyota Landcruiser: the Double Duty shackle. We replaced the old fashioned fixed gusset between the shackle plates with an adjustable, removable one, so you no longer have to choose between a street-solid shackle and a trail-flexy one: you get BOTH in one shackle!
Many folks who run trails with their cruisers believe an ‘open’ shackle [without a gusset] provides superior flex over a gusseted one. Those same folks will readily concede that an ‘open’ shackle produces more axle wander on the street than a gusseted one if anything between the frame and the axle is too loose. So why not have a shackle that allows you to choose between the two configurations with the simple removal of a bolt and spacer.
The second, and perhaps even more important benefit of our innovative design is that it gives you stability WITH A CUSTOM FIT! We have often noted over the course of our twenty four years of working on Landcruisers that most aftermarket shackles are either a bit too wide, or a bit too narrow for the aftermarket bushings and springs that most cruisers are now running. As a result, the shackles end up being bowed in, or worse, with a gap between the plates and the spring bushings [which leads to axle shifting]
In fact, in a recent informal survey of websites offering fixed gusset shackles, several have posted warnings about over tightening and bowing, acknowledging that their product is not necessarily the ‘right’ size for your truck. That is why the Double Duty shackles come with a slightly narrower gusset spacer. With the included hardware, you can incrementally widen the space between the shackle plates to suit your vehicle’s needs. NO MORE COMPROMISES!
We have field tested this product for two years, logging over 20,000 miles both on and off road. The ability to fine-tune the shackles ‘on the fly’ has proven invaluable in maintaining proper front end tracking and handling.
Our shackles are CNC laser cut from stout 2” wide, 3/8” thick steel plate. The gussets are made from .25 wall tubing, the thickest gusset material on the market. Grade 5 bolts and nylon locknuts also come standard.
Models DD01 and 02 are made for the 1964-2/80 FJ40 with lengths 1.5 and 2.5" longer than stock and are currently priced at $69 a pair.
Models DD81 and DD82 fit 2/80 and newer FJ40s, as well as FJ55s and FJ60s, and are available in either 1.25 or 2.25" lift from stock [3" center to center] and are currently priced at $79 a pair.
Pics are available on the special's page of my website,... and in my new IH8MUD banner!
