My 76 RHD came with a second battery, which was so badly mounted that it cracked the wheelarch to which it was mounted, and had 2 thin crappy wires taking the power to the rear load bed. (Note the dry joint on the earth plate).
I descided to redo the entire system.

There is a nice place behind the rear seat belt for accessory plugs, which gets them out of the way of things rolling around the back, and a nice place behing the load bed side pannel, in front of the speaker, for fuses and terminating the new 16mmsq wires coming from the engine bay mounted second battery.

I descided on fuses both sides of the pos wire and to use the large terminal posts, which makes attaching other accessories easier at a later stage. I could also hook a trailor ps supply up here if I ever hate myself enough to want to tow one. The fuses will feed the plugs, which are, one Hella for the fridge, one cig lighter type and a double 2x2A USB. ( even charges an I phone)

Pulling off the plastic cover on the inside of the C Pillar will reveal a nise 65mm deep place where the plugs can residewithout fouling the seat belt . It's a case of look , think and measure ( Repeat often)

Those "side entry" connectors worked a treat, RS components have them.

Yes, I know, I used a metal cutter for the body and alu plate and then a cheap paddle cutter for the plastic, the missus has already shat me out, so please don't bother. I'll find some trim to fix this, same for the fuse window below

And thats about it back here, the 4 th fuse will be used for a small invertor which I will probably mount where the speaker was. I already have a speaker in each door which is enough for me.

So the engine bay already had a badly mounted second battery in a bracket made by Front Runner . I reworked the bracket and shifted the battery further into the engine bay to enable me to fit a plate with the solenoide and fuses behind it.

While doing research, i discovered that you can use Toyota parts for this, in fact its the exact same part number as the vehicle starter battery tray in front of the wheel arch. It, and the stays just reverse for mounting behind the wheel arch. ( but you 24volt guys already knew that, with out saying anything.

I had the cracks in the arch tig welded ( i think it was tig) and the plated and seam sealed. And then redrilled for the new bracket.

Lots of holes already there for stays and a nice snug place for the electrics.
I can't tell you if there are/were toyota holes for the battery tray on the wheel arch, but I cant see why not.

It's already all in and working, but I'll post some pics of the second battery tomorrow.
Please feel to ask any questions.

Nice job. I ripped out most of what the PO did on my troopy, like my 73 series near catastrophe a few years back, its a fire waiting to happen.

Cheers Ross

I had to fix a few bugger ups but both the cruiser and I are stronger for it.

Top tig welded and plated, and underside has 50mm washers epoxied in place

Front Runner battery stay, which i will probally replace with a Toyota unit as this one looks a little flimsey.

By the end of the weekend, it will all be cleaned up and painted, but it all steady as a rock and it all works.
