I am going to be doing a RHD to LHD converson and restoration on a BJ74. I have a LHD 12V BJ70 that I am using as a donor.

Can I swap the 12V BJ70 column into the 24V BJ74? I do not know if there are circuits in the column, or just switches.

I would like to keep the same key, and move the levers to the side I am accustomed to.

Let me know if you have experience in this part of the conversion.

One of the regular's on here did this exact thing, using the exact same donor. I read the whole thread and it was pretty impressive - he unpicked the whole firewall and swapped it over. The only thing I'm uncertain of is the voltage of the donor and recipient vehicles. Check out the search box up top and you'll run across it I'm sure.

I changed mine 2 years ago- I didn't bother to ask the authorIzed parts dealer regarding voltage.
The switches worked perfectly and still are.

I swapped my 1988 BJ74 to LHD using parts from a 1985 BJ70. I also swapped from 24 volt to 12volt, used the complete 1985 harness.

It was really not hard at all. I had to change to bulbs to 12 volt. and rewire the starter and alternator. And change out the VSVs. Otherwise... easy peasy. And no more messing around with 24/12 converters and such.

I thought about that also. The donor BJ70 was running and driving--just wrecked. The wireing was complete and unmolested.

What I was most concerned about for the BJ74 was the AC, Power locks, Power windows and Power mirrors going to 12V. I would like to keep them. I have the 12V starter and alternator still on the 3B from the BJ70.

And things associated with the Turbo. It is all outside my scope of understanding

Oh... power windows and locks? I didn't have those challenges. I lost the power mirrors, but I can live without that.
The Air-Con will be lost during the LHD swap; you can try a hot-rod air-con kit (it's been done, but I never found pictures of how), or you could go $$$ and get factory new parts from Stedman in japan.
I would look in Toyo-DIY and check the electric motor part# for a 12volt LHD HZJ73 and see what it crosses over with. Maybe FJ62? Or you could use the donor BJ70 window cranks and ditch the electric windows.

I will do that! The mirrors aren't that important but I would like to keep the windows. I already have all the AC parts in 12v and 24 v

where did you get the LHD air con parts? I have been looking for a good source for the condenser (the part in the dash). I think I could build the rest from FJ60 or hot rod parts...

They came with the truck. . The PO was going to put AC in the BJ70 before the truck got wrecked. I only really need the condenser and the pump (mine went bad on the BJ74)
