12ht piston protrusion

Exact ! you just need to find the tools which do the job for you.
But also.... If you are anyway doing the head gasket - you could also lift the head off - then undo the intake.

I have just relised that this is an older thread and that we discussed 12ht piston protrusion in the beginning.
I had a bit too much protrusion and was unsure about it.
Now - 5 1/2 years later - I'm still running the same protrusion (and head gasket) and it is probably safe to say (knock on wood) that the 0.75mm are working fine.
It might contribute to the perfect cold starting. Well, it's not getting really cold here but last week we had minus 2°C (28°F) and the engine started basicly within the second revolution of the crank. No worries - and that is with completely deleted preheat system.
If I have ever the chance to rebuild a 12ht spare engine - I would respect the protrusion and get it right. But for me and now it works just fine with 0.75mm.

Hey mate, I'm new to this site. I've also discovered a blown headgasket on a old 60 series (12HT) I've bought recently. My plans are to put it back on the road, i've bought it as project. I'm trying to tackle all the problems alone and but I'm no mechanic by any means so all the advice is appreciated. Im in the process of the taking off the head. Im at the point where I have to take off the manifolds. Im struggling to take off all the bolts on the intake manifold, there are some bolts that are near impossible to take off without taking off the injection pump (?????). Im also trying to take the head out without lifting the engine out, because i dont have the tools to lift it out. Any advice on taking out the intake manifold will be much appreciated.
Cheers
If you haven't gotten those nuts yet, try going over top of the pump with a 1/4" drive long extension and a 1/4" universal to a 1/4"- 12mm socket. Pretty sure that worked for me.
