Where exactly are we going to be cutting the trees?

My family has a house at lake Davis, and my brother is living there while he looks for a new house with his wife. Maybe they'll want me to get them a tree...

and I can't believe I got the day off!:grinpimp:

The last couple years we drove up to Crystal Peak...on the East side of Frenchman's.

How far is this from Reno? Just trying to get a time/mileage idea.

Chris

Halleluheh Junction, the meet location, is ~30-miles North of Reno. Frenchman's Reservoir is another ~20 miles or so from HJ. Crystal Peak lies east of Frenchman Res. between Hwy 395 and FR. (You'll be able to overlook Hwy 395 from near the top of Crystal Peak).

Yesterday there was a checkpoint at Beckworth summit. Checking for tree permits and other. Besides US Forestry, CHP, Sherrif and tow truck was there.
The store at Hallelujah Jct is now taking debit cards with a $1 fee.
No snow and probably none to come.

Mike

If you guys will have me, I'm going to try and make it again this year.

I no longer have a CB, do I need one?

I do have my 2m hooked up.

You are always welcome Andy.

What is this CB of which you speak?

Well it's looking like we are going to be dry road wheeling. Boo.

Jack

I'm working on finishing up my entertainment center wood work so I won't be going. But have fun. Not having some snow to slide around on is a bummer but it looks like it will be a fine weather day anyway.

Sorry to hear you won't be with us Dan.
Andy P also bailed out.

Anybody have any thoughts on which road we should take?
We have taken Ferris creek ranch Road from Doyle over to Beckworth before. It's a nice drive but not very technical.

I didn't take my camera out all day, we were on a mission to find a tree.

I almost rolled.....

Nice tree Dan!
I never heard the whole story on that. I know we did an unscheduled lane change on that bridge, but we didn't have oncoming traffic:eek:

After everybody else headed down the mountain we continued up Lookout Creek road for a ways. There were a ton of people up there so we turned around and headed north. We continued north past the turn off for Doyle to the Ferris Creek area. Here is a picture of the cabin from a few years ago

Right at the end of this valley we stopped, this is an area we have had good luck in before. Within 20 minutes we found our tree and cut it down. It took another half hour to get it back to the truck and secured. By now it was around 2:00, we decided to head out via Beckworth since it was still fairly early. We were within 4 miles of Beckworth when I noticed my cell phone was missing. We back tracked checking every place we had stopped until we found it. Right next to the tree stump. This was around 3:30 or 4:00 so we looked at the map and took the shortest route out of the mountains. The road down to Milford is full of washboard and 190° switchbacks it was almost dark by the time we made it back to 395 and joined the caravan of tree topped trucks heading to Reno.
