100 Series Starter Repair

If anyone is interested to see this done, I am planning to remove the starter on the 100 this weekend and replace the contacts and plunger. Doesn't sound too difficult other than the weight of lifting the intake manifold out of the engine bay. The parts should be at Fred Anderson Saturday morning and I will try to get started in the afternoon. If you would like to drop by, either PM or give me a call. When it's done, I'll post a couple of pics.

Just kidding.

Especially being late notice and all. The starter began acting up on Wednesday, so I wanted to get it fixed ASAP to keep from being stranded somewhere.

Here are pics of tonight's tear down. Tomorrow will be contacts and plunger swap and reassembly...

wow! they couldnt find a less convenient location to put the starter?
 
That's kinda retarded..... did toyota design the 100 after an all night

It really isn't all that bad to repair/swap, only takes time and patience. Especially since it can go 100,000 miles between maintenance intervals. :)

FWIW, I replaced the spark plugs at the same time since a lot of the wiring and vacuum lines are removed or loose.
 
yeah, doesn't look hard, just doesn't seem smart lol....
 
Wow, gotta love engineers that design this stuff. Reminds me of the 80's era Chevy Monza with optional V8, you had to remove the motor mount on the DS and jack the engine over to access the two rear plugs. The steering prevented it any other way. Lots of 6 plug tune ups done on those cars.

Toyota did this same thing on the highlander V6. Doing the timing belt on Shelley's RX330 required jacking motor up to remove lower water pump bolts. Made for a pain when reinstalling motor mount...
