I know this is an old thread, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so here goes.

There is talks from Trail Tailor building a remote mount turbo kit for the 100 series. I'm not sure how much info I can release, but if you're interested, I suggest emailing them.

There is also someone on the Facebook group "Land Cruiser/LX470 100 series USA" that had polled interest for Magnuson to bring back the supercharger kit. However, there is no info on this and probably won't until November. Even then I'm not exactly sure if this will go through. I'm including a screenshot of the beginning of the topic for those who want to follow it.

That is definitely tempting. I was recently very close to selling my 2006 100, as well as a car I have, and getting a 200 series but I kept looking at my 100 and I just like it too much to part with. I prefer the looks and although mine has some cosmetic issue due to a careless prior owner, its still something I love. I was considering supercharging the 200, since I'd have the money from two auto sales, so a supercharger for the 4.7L would be fun too - I already have headers and aftermarket exhaust. But with 214K miles on a 14 year old vehicle, I struggle to make that make sense. I did fine DAP Tuning and thought about driving it up there for a custom tune - https://daptuning.com/tuning .

There was a good series from a fellow named Andrew St Pierre from 4xoverland.

He does a lot around the 100 series and spent a lot of coin and time trying to make it have a bit more power with no success. Superchaged and all engine mods just left him still wanting more.

These rigs don't need to be pushed for more power, they're meant to go the long haul, slow and steady. Press the PWR button and pedal to the floor

I like to pull up next to people and then when the red turns green, hit the gas and then throw myself back into the seat, my head hitting the headrest comically.

They don't know I'm actually going as fast as I can, they just think I'm funny or nuts and no one is the wiser.

Diesel rigs are regularly tweaked here in New Zealand & Australia. Those with the 1HDFTE 4.2 litre diesels with some bolt ons, injectors, intercooler & turbo upgrades can get 300 reliable rwhp and 750nm torque. Base motor untouched at 500,000km on mine. Toyota reliability. Was built by Toyota as a turbo and diesels can generally take more punishment than petrol. The next 500,000km might be reached a little more quickly with the recent upgrade

Can anyone comment from personal experince about aftermarket exhaust systems? It seems that Borla and Doug Thorley are the only options.

Interested to know about build quality, fitment, sound and if you felt any power increase. Needless to say, a nice exhaust sound can create the perception of increase performance which is why some new cars pump fake engine noise through the stereo speakers.

At some point I will most likely need to replace my exhaust, at least cat-back. It is starting to look kinda crusty... The factory docs say its stainless steel, but it SURE does not look like it to me (and I do a lot of work with metal).

Next time I'm under the truck I'm going to check with a magnet to see which parts of the exhaust are magnetic. 300 series stainless steel (chromium-nickel, the most corrosion resistant) is non-magnetic. Perhaps Toyota used some type of low chromium 400 series alloy.

Let's be realistic .... quoted from here

"The LX 470 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in about 10 seconds and turning the quarter-mile in less than 18 seconds."

This is for an 01. Don't fool yourself and think either the 5spd or even VVTi will drastically change these numbers.

Wanna go faster? Shed the weight and/or go part time 4wd

From the 2006 LX 470 (VVT-i, 275 HP 332 lb-ft) Specifications:
0-60 mph 8.9 sec
0-400m 16.6 sec

Not drastic but significant.

I thought we were talking about optimizing engine performance by replacing components that need replacing anyway with better performing aftermarket solutions.

Turning a 5600 lb 4WD SUV into a dragster is not something I'm interested in (although that hasn't stopped BMW or Mercedes from doing just that). Marginal power increases can help in other ways, such as better passing performance, better performance with larger diameter wheels or compensating for heavy upgrades (bumpers, etc.)

Or Toyota apparently:

I'd like to know what they did to build that engine... They didn't describe it but obviously two BIG turbos.

Thx for posting!

Hi I’m new here. I came from the Honda scene so I’m very new to overlanding. So I was wondering where you guys are getting all your performances part from. I’d like to start upgrading the intake headers and full exhaust including an ecu. Thank you in advance.

You'll find out there isn't much you can do to the 2UZ to gain any performance worth getting exited over..... This isn't a honda, this motor is made to just chug along and run forever.

Keep it cool and lubed and moved on. Just my take on it

Borla exhaust: https://amzn.to/3seicwN
Headers: https://amzn.to/3KDKOWs
Y-pipe with smoother bends: https://amzn.to/3YCBQhX

You can also swap the black plastic intake manifold from the later VVTI trucks to an earlier truck for better top end.

Lastly you can buy a supercharger from Elate or Bullet.

Don't listen to guys with slow trucks. Lots you can do to the 4.7.

Let's see some numbers.....Seriously lol because I really don't know.

Are you gaining any power worth talking about?

To take a slow heavy truck and make it slightly less slow just doesn't seem worth the $$$ Pedal to the floor and the 2uz has plenty of power.

Who the heck buys a land cruiser and tries to make it faster lol go rally that old honda, you'll have a lot more fun.

Yeah I documented my mods and dropped over a second 0-60 N/A. Now that it's supercharged it rips. I tow regularly in the CO mountains and every bit helps. Started out doing 40 MPH in the right lane. Now I go 70+ in the left lane.

alright alright, I certainly won't be the one to argue that a supercharged 2UZ isn't bad ass lol and furthermore if it serves a legit purpose like pumping more air into your rig at high altitude while in tow.

I'll go back to my slow little bubble.

I have wasted hours watching that guy's videos. It never gets old.

Nothing beats being number 1 in the 4wd class on race week at the drag strip.

What we need to do is stop wasting time on forums and fly to the middle east so we can figure out how they make their trucks go bang bang pow on two wheels

Wonder how those wheel bearings hold up. It’s impressive to see these tanks on two like that.

Well I’m thinking of going turbo not supercharge but let’s see. Turbo kit only 2k. Plus I never cared about horsepower or being fast. It’s about being unique. I build Hondas and standing out from the norm is what I do. thank you. I can’t wait to start building where’s all the Fresno people at?
