Hi again, I have a 2000 100 series with no A/C.
I brought it to our local shop and they said the evaporator core is leaking.
Around $850 to fix.
Wondering if there are potentially many more possible leaks/costs ahead ??
Any advice??

Thanks,

No way to know until they fix the evaporator core and vacuum test the system to check for other leaks. Same thing for compressor and other mechanical components. Once the A/C system is leak free they can then test operation of compressor etc... once oil/freon is sealed inside. Step by step process.

How did it come about? Gradual decrease in performance? Or it was blowing cold a few hours ago and now not working?

Sometimes these older just needs to be charged up. They leak over time. Get someone to pull vac and charge the recommened amount. I would start there. To be honest, I never saw a leaking evap core.

I bought it last fall knowing the a/c didn't work.
I had a Toyota dealer charge the system and it worked for a few days .

If it only lasted a couple days then your leak is major. See you can spot any oily substance on your condensor. Do the same for all the connections/joints. Also take a look at your ac evap drain. See if its oily.

I have a 2001 LX470, and it has a AC line leak also. Upon doing more research, there is a common leak point - on the line that passes behind the passenger side wheel well. Pop some dye in your system if you want to verify it. You might need to replace that line to seal your system back up. Or, you can cap it - however this will disable your rear AC.

I had an evap core leak and replaced it. Chances are you don't have cabin air filters and grime accumulated in your core and rotted it out. The book says to pull the instrument panel to replace it, but you can strategically cut below he glove box to get proper access. Add the filters while you're in there.

Searching should provide some instructions on more detail.

Had the rear evap core replace along with 2 leaking lines in the rear.
Feels like I opened a can of worms because it works but mechanic said there are still a couple of small leaks.
We could let it go and see if it lasts through the summer or dump another $1000 into the latest fix.
Thanks for the input everyone.
Anyone have recommendations for a large roof rack??

My 2001 Leaked at the same place. Rocks and dirt get sent up that way often. I had it replaced and now my AC works fine.

Front Runner Slimline is a good one... I put one on last year, and its very useful. There are also Labrak's and gamiviti's and a few other options around... just do a search... lots of data on roof racks.
