I have a few questions and ideas for possible mods.

1. Has anyone done the black out hood on the 100 series? This is like the camel trophy discos of old. I was thinking it would be sweet if someone made a flatblack sticker. Any pictures anywhere of this done? Any web places that do big stickers like this? I think this would look sweet on my river rock green 100.

2. Has anyone replaced the rear carpet panel on the lower tailgate with something more durable? Cordura or metal or something?

3. What about cordura armrest covers? A little more rugged than the leather and you could chnage them out if they get dirty or worn.

4. Has anyone found a digital altimeter that would work in the 100 cabin or how about a lev o gauge that isn't bright yellow for side slopes?

Any other outside the box mods people have been done would be great to hear about.

I am thinking about inexpensive mods for the 100, if such a thing exists.

Thanks,

Allow me to add to the list:

*Anybody have heavy-duty lower rear control arms?

I'm researching now on this. Despite my steel reinforcement, I bent an arm last time out. I'm checking this weekend to see if 80 arms will fit. If not, I'll have Sonoran Steel make me custom ones with the new Rubicon joint on one end in place of one bushing.

I need bushings too and if like the rear upper arms, the 80 bushings are the same though the bolt is bigger. If these arms are the same length and swappable with 80 arms then we're covered. We just by 80 bushings and/or arms and 80 bolts and nuts. They go on by drilling out the bolt hole in the mounts.

Only black hoods I've seen (on non-black vehicles) are the JDM carbon fiber ones.

Just got muy100 but I did take the running boards off ASAP, next the roof rack goes. Did this to my 80 as well and if you are not using them the rig looks so much cleaner without them.

You should unbolt your hood this weekend and rattle can it flat black.

That would be cool.

Hardened Lower Rr Control Arms....

OK, I'm an admitted Noob to all this stuff, but when I first heard about the lower control arms bending, this is the first thing I thought of:

Would that not work? Or is that about what you guys have been doing?
My thinking is that having the apex of the angle pointed down makes the whole thing near impossible to bend - although you could break the welds....

IDK - you may have all been doing this already, and I'm about to get a wave of "Here's why that won't work..."

I found custom made seatcovers for mine that are basically a cordura material. I just did the back (middle) seat for the dogs. The custom tailored covers include pieces for each arm rest, head rest, etc. Very nice and fit like a glove. Don't expect them in a hurry though. Here is the link:

I'd advise against buying anything from CoverKing. I ordered a semi-custom ~$120 (IIRC) cover for my honda prelude a couple of years ago. After months of stalling/delays, a cover finally came that was about 3 ft too long, no mirror pockets as shown in the pics, nothing. It fit worse than the $70 PepBoys cover, and the material was even worse quality. It was clear they just shipped a generic cover that was the next size up from the length of the vehicle despite advertising it as semi-custom. They also promised me a discount due to the delays..that never came. I returned the product (got the return authorization #, shipped it w/ tracking). They confirmed they got the cover and promised a prompt refund. No refund came after two weeks. I mailed them several times over the next 2 months, still no refund. Finally, I printed all the email correspondence w/ them and filed a complaint w/ the credit card company. They socked them w/ the charge and credited me back the full amount.

Also, one big negative against cordura...dog hair sticks to it like a magnet. It doesn't stick to real leather. I put my lab in a crate in the rear...only have to vacuum around the perimeter of the crate.

That's what I got. It didn't hold climbing a ledge (3 feet tall) on one wheel and 1.5 foot ledges on the other 2 wheels. Hop hop = bend.

Control Arms...

Ok, I know this looks overkill, but stay with me...

trying to utilize the strength of the triangle to it's utmost.

Again, the welds would be the weakest part, but other than that, and the fact that it would be kinda heavy, what say you?

I follow you. Ultimately I'd like a HD arm. Adding the stuff to the undersides reduces precious clearance.

Ah, yeah see this is why engineers work in teams devoted to one thing and then bring their ideas together - I was just concentrating on making the thing stronger, I hadn't thought about the reduced clearance issue.

What's an HD arm?

1. Huh, black out hood...just the idea sounds awful ;p Could look good in a LR Defender, maybe, but not in a 100.

3. Yes, and you could as well use these to protect your seats:
Seat covers
;)

.............. I gathered that much.

Phrased the question poorly, What does an HD Arm look like?

Here are the 4-Plus control arms for the 80 series. Aftermarket control arms can provide several benefits, such as being stronger than stock, allowing length adjustments to alter wheelbase and pinion angle, and using ends that are stronger and/or offer more angularity than the bushings they replace.

And this company makes vinyl hood decals for Rovers, you could contact them and ask about one for a 100 series.
