My mirror switch went out and after looking into the oem unit, and finding out it was $150+, I decided to look around for alternatives. I found that a 2008 GMC Canyon switch is nearly identical, has the same connector and the wiring diagram was the same/similar so I decided to give it a try. I ordered this unit from GM locally, but it’s the same part number as this one:

Genuine GM 15205243 Rear View Mirror Remote Control Switch, Exterior Amazon product ASIN B00GV85OWE
Everything worked! The only thing is that the tabs that lock the switch into the plastic housing in the LC are reversed and there is no real way to change that. It’s not a big deal because it still wedges into place tightly and won’t come off of the cover plate easily. The other thing is that the bulb that comes with it has a blue color to it instead of green. I happened to have a green bulb and swapped it, but it wasn’t a big deal either.

I don’t mind forking over money for quality Toyota parts, but in this case it seemed like a no brainer to give this a try. I imagine that they are both manufactured by the same tier 1 supplier for GM and Toyota so it should be of similar quality inside.

Figured I’d share in case anyone out there is living with a broken mirror switch and wants to resolve it with a new part at a third of the cost.

I happened to be digging into this part last night. Good luck getting the old one out of the larger plastic trim piece without breaking the outer trim piece. I think you're going to need to hack away at the inner switch and destroy it to get it out, because those plastic tabs were not engineered with the intention of pulling the switch back out. I'm curious to see how you're able to get the old one out once you get around to the install.

I didn’t take pictures of the installation but I was able to install it using a couple of small flat head screwdrivers to get it out without breaking the cover trim. You have to apply pressure to the switch as you release the tabs in order for them not to lock back into place.

Yeah I had three flat heads going at once and still couldn't manage to jog it free. I suppose a crack in that trim piece wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world. Could always close it back up with a bit of glue and apply a few dabs of hot glue where new tabs meet receivers in the trim piece. It's all behind the dash anyway. Maybe we should go over to the GM forums and see if they've found the part somewhere else for even less.

Ok, you got me. Ordered the part on Amazon. Why do I have a funny feeling this GM switch is about to become low inventory everywhere...

did the light up switch portion function on land cruiser without needing additional wiring?

only the mirror trigger orientation was wrong ?
