Little back story:

I have an Alu-Cab Gen 3 RTT that I am moving from my FJ62 to my 100 Series (1998).

I am having a difficult time figuring out a direct to a footpack/footpad/feet solution. The reason I am stuck on figuring out something this way is to reduce the overall height of the vehicle. Yes I am choosing a more difficult route than simply figuring out a way to attach to a roof rack, but to reduce weight and height, I would love to find a solution to mount directly to factory footpack/footpad/feet locations.

That being said, I have been in talks with Tiny Rig Co. who I was told had a custom footpad that works for the 100 series. Upon receiving their kit, the holes to receive the screws and attach to the roof do not match.

I have measured the center line of my roof rack holes to be 3 3/16" Center Line of Mounting Point to Center Line of Mounting Point.

The footpacks that I received measure 2 1/4" Center Line of Mounting Point to Center Line of Mounting Point. My sherpa rubber footpads were also short.

I have included a few photos. Can someone go out there and measure the measurement of the distance between CL and CL of each mounting points?

Bump - can someone measure the center to center of their roof mount points?

Sorry, don't have the measurements because all mine are occupied.

@D_Web you tried a similar route with the Sherpa foot packs, right?

I replied to a post of yours on expo portal. I used three sets of gamiviti feet and 3 alucab load bars to mount my tent. I tried going with direct mount without load bars, but the center of the tent bows down. Using just two load bars and the supplied mounts on a 100 series is not sufficient support. The rear two mounting locations on the truck are two close together, and the front of the tent ends up not being supported. I made custom brackets with short pieces of steel angle to mount the tent to the front load bar using the bottom mounting rail on the tent. That worked great for me for almost a year before I switched to a dissent roof rack.

Thank you for your reply - I appreciate you taking the time to help me!

I just built a set of custom footpacks for a 8020 style roof rack and was struggling with it for a bit. Center distance is 81mm or 3 3/16" on all but the pair at the front, on both sides of the sunroof. It's 71mm there.
The pairs of mount points are all at different angles and slightly different orientations and the gutter is V shaped with the front being wider than the rear - 126.5cm to 119cm.

The roof is bulged in the middle, adjust your minimal distance there.

I've been looking at this also (for a Alucab RTT) for while. The goal was to get it all as streamlined as possible without building something myself (I'd screw it up).

There are four sets of holes in the 100 Series roof with a different front pair exposed between the 100 and LX. As Moridinbg mentioned, the front-most pair are closer together than the others. In any case, the feet you've got appear to be incompatible.

I ended up with the Sherpa Equipment Co feet and they include four pairs in each kit, with different front feet for the different spacing. But I'm convinced they've made an error somewhere along the line, because you can't mount all four pairs and have things line up, which is a bit of a shame.

Added some 1450mm Alucab load bars and drilled center holes in the feet to match. Also picked up some Alucab low profile mounting feet to use depending on how things sit.

Overall, am pretty happy with the result and think it'll work well.

This is great. I just grabbed the Rhino Rsck backbone, planning to venture down that path.

Just installed the backbone, waiting for one more AluCab load bar to arrive then will do the swap from my FJ62 to the 100 series.

I don’t know if Sherpa realized that some of the length between center of roof mounts are different. Your solution is one of the most streamlined examples/solutions I’ve seen. Juniper (in Denver) and even AluCab South Africa recommended buying a full rack to mount the tent to.

It’s nice to save some dough compared to the full racks .. and hopefully mount them as low as possible to the roof.

I’d looked at the Rhino but didn’t think about using the side rails with the load bars. Keen to see the result, hope you can post some photos.

I’m very happy with the Sherpa product but haven’t seen anything here match what Rhino do - I was running their load bar system previously and you can tell they took their time getting the mounting system right.

Got my AluCab bars in the mail .. mounted the single up front, as I’m planning to run three bars to connect to the AluCab RTT.

Looks pretty sleek if you ask me. So far so good. The front bar will allow for me to attach lights or a water tank or maybe just a fairing to the front with the c-channel facing the front.

Might stuff some weatherstripping in there to cut down on the whistle until the next next upgrade … but hopefully I can get the tent up there from the FJ62 this week with some friends coming over to help. Onward to photos:

The final piece to this will be the front right angle bracket, to connect the front of the tent to the front bar. This is extra, so I am pretty sure any right angle bracket will work. Just need to measure the correct height of the right angle mount location on one of the provided alu-cab tent to load bar feet.

Updating to show that the Rhino Rack Backbone works well with the Alu-Cab RTT set up.

I bought the backbone only and am using three (3) Alu-Cab 1450 load bars. I used the standard mounts for the side channel and under c-channel mounts and then bought the load bar accessory mounts for the front. I have some extra parts, but I plan to use those to mount a few things off the side of the tent at some point.

All in all - its pretty good! I have a whistle because I have my front load bar c channel facing the front of the car (to eventually mounts lights or what not there), but hopefully can find some c-channel cover to reduce that whistle.
