In the quest to rid my 100 of the gold bling bling emblems I have a question. Do the rear emblems have alignment pins that go into the body? or not? I haven't pulled em off yet and before I did I thought it would make sense to know if pins or not, if not I'll need to take some pics and measurements so I can get em back on right.

Also, if anyone has taking theres off and replaced them, what did you use to adhear them to the body? the stock double stick tape is cut to fit the emblems and would be a royal PITA to cut out with an exacto knife. And if I just used some new sticky tape in a few spots its prolly gonna look funky if you look close at the emblems. So I was planing on just useing some 3M emblem adheasive goop and sticking them on. Hopefully the backside of the emblems are flat and not hollow.......or there won't be a place for the goop to stick to ;)

and yes this a SUPER weak post.......but da bling has to go :D I took the front emblem off and painted it gloss black and it looks great.........now its time to debling the butt ::)

From my experience newer vehicles don't have alignment pins for emblems anymore. Probably has something to do with corrosion. Of course I could be wrong seeing as I don't even have a 100 series.

IIRC, the last time I had the rear emblems in my hands there were no pins. I don't have any to look at at the moment, sorry.

Pimp they dont have pins , we use 3m tape the black kind p# 06383, size7/8inpo x 20 yd/v x .45 in/po or on mm ,22,2mmx 18,3m x 1,14mm
not to hard to cut to fit ,
Use 2 in masking tape all around it and a pen to mark the location,

no pins :(

I was hoping to use the 3M emblem and trim adhesive glue(its clear and says it won't hurt the paint) It looks to me like ALOT of work cutting out the around all the letters to use the sticky tape.

Good idea on the masking tape! :)

I am half tempted to just leave off the emblems................

And that's why pins are evil. With pins you don't have that later option. (well you do if you don't mind holes...)

eh, how about changing it to "200" something in the back, or V12, or 8WD and fend off the ladies everywhere after that?
:D

or I could just pony up $90 for new chrome rear emblems and be done with it ;)

Can you post a pic of your black emblem on the front? I also have gold, and want to see what black looks like.

I checked at the parts store and they had the 3M 06383 in stock.........problem is its $40 for a roll...don't need a whole roll and for 2x's that I can get new chrome emblems ;) I might see if I can find a friendly body shop that would give me or sell me just a few yards of it.

What about the newer 2003 emblem. I dont care with my bling emblem either but the newer emblem are like one piece emblem that makes the whole licence plate housing looks a lot nicer IMHO.
CDan could you find out if the newer emblem could fit my 99? If so how much would that be?

I looked at that very breifly the other day, I think the new emblems are built in the the rear hatch kinda like the 80 series emblem, but maybe I am wrong.

I had the gold pkg on mine. I took a fine grit sand paper and it all came off very easy - the only hard part was to keep the paper off the paint. They don't end up as a shiny chrome but they do look silver-ish but you could still convince yourself there's a hint of gold in there. It might just be the reflection from the beige paint. The gold on the rear hatch lock even came off easy. I was motivated by Cdan's comment a while back on using chrome polish to get the gold off the hatch lock. In any case, an easy, inexpensive fix and it made a big difference for someone who didn't like the look of the gold at all.

Removal - Use Dental floss and saw the glue. Before you do that, mark around all emblems with tape. Use Goo Gone to remove the rest of the glue.

The new emblems already have glue/stick adhevise on the back of them. You peel it off and stick them on.

The toyota emblem under the rear winshield wiper has marking holes.

As far as the front emblem, I took mine off and painted it flat black. Here is a link to the picture. http://www.pbase.com/image/25417072

have fun, :D

Pimp if you are not in a rush pm and i will send you a foot or two

If you feel like driving one of your beauties to Sedro Wooley I could definitely hook you up pimp. I dont think the 3m glue is a bad idea though I use it on cars all the time in my shop.

thanks guys :) right now I am testing the 3M goop on my 92 cruiser, stuck an old emblem on the rear hatch and will see how it holds on and how it comes off. But I might take both of ya up on your offer.

I can't beleive something as silly as the gold emblems is driving me nuts ::)

Pimp,
the 3m good stuff is part number 08061. I like the stuff and haven't had any problems with it coming off.
