Hi all,

I just discovered that the plastic under body engine cover is broken on my LX470.

As you can see the plastic split all the way through from the part that's attached to the vehicle. I'm not sure how it happened but it's the same on both sides. so this piece is just dangling freely. I googled it and I believe the right part number is: 51420-60100

I'm thinking to repair it with some epoxy and fiberglass mesh. Will it hold? I've never used the stuff before. I was wondering if someone has a suggestion or specific product they've used for this sort of thing. Other suggestions are welcome! Buying a replacement is out of the question though. I can't believe it's $400 for a replacement. TIA.

Im going to try zip tie stitching with mine.

interesting. although i don't think it works well for this case. There's just not enough plastic material or room for enough stitches to make it sturdy.

smaller zip ties ;)

Not fixable, but IMO you're missing two bolts that mounts it to the frame - in which case it wouldn't bend away that much.

That would be great if i have other places to bolt down on it. I'll check for the missing bolts. I'm planning on pulling it out this weekend to try the epoxy and fiberglass mesh anyway. If I can at least replace the missing bolts that'll give enough support so there shouldn't be as much strain on the epoxied part. it should tide me over until I can get proper "metal" protection under there.

So apparently these break all the time. From what I’ve been reading, it’s very common, and people end up zip tying it back.

I received a used replacement one for mine after these clips broke, and the one I received had the L-Mounts sawed off already, LOL. At least it looks that way.

In the thread linked above, there were several good inexpensive recommended replacements. I’m going to order them so I have them on hand when I need to replace mine next time.
