I was talking to a friend who used to have a 100 Series landcruiser and who now drives a Sequoia (I know, she went down a notch). She mentioned that her Sequoia eats brakes and that her landcruiser was even worse (new pads every 13-15K mi).

Is she just hard on brakes or is this pretty common?

By the way, I tried to do a search on this and came up empty (although my search skills kind of suck).

I don't think there has been much on the 100 series brake life -- lots of posts on 80s using 100 series pads on the front.
I've only had my truck a year, about 15k in 12 months, and I'll be looking at the brakes as part of the 60k service next week or so. I'll post the results, and I'll follow this thread to see what others' experience has been.

I haven't really had mine long enough to comment, but based on reviewing threads here, 12k to 15k is pretty common, worse if you get cheap pads. Some seem to be able to do better than this for some reason. With the right proportioning, the backs should get about twice that.

I think I'm going to try the 100 series next time around.

I wouldn't say 12 to 15k is common at all for OEM pads, more in the 25k range. If that's what she is actually getting I bet the majority is city driving and she also has a lead foot. Gas mileage I would guess is bad as well.

The first time I changed front brake pads on our UZJ-100 was after 35,000+ miles. The rear was at 40,000+ miles. We now have almost 60,000 miles on our UZJ-100, and it's my wife's daily driver to bring/fetch the kids from school, and is also our long-distance vacation truck. I have Toyota Fremont records to prove it :D

I am with drexx on this one. I have owned the 1999 since 48k miles. I just put brakes on the front at 82k. The rears were replaced at 82k as well. The 100 is so much easier on pads. I drive this beast very hard, harder than I should and have been since I owned it.

The girl maybe getting taken advantage of or she could be like other women I have ridin with and brake at the very last second very hard. This would be very bad on the lc because the bad boy is so heavy.

I have a 98 LC and the brakes were just re-done for the first time at 80,000 miles. If she is getting that few miles from a set, she probably needs to evaluate the person who is doing the work. That or she may not want to push the gas and the brake at the same time while driving.
