Planning for the future.

I want to put together a resource for the mud 100 series forum.

The 25 year rule is getting close on the 100 series vehicles.

We are basically 4 years out. 3 years to wait and 1 year to hunt and find the 100 of your dreams.

Which models?

100/105 series – LHD

· FZJ – Manual/Auto

· UZJ – Manual/Auto

· 1HD-FTE – Manual/Auto

Trim Levels

· GX – GX-R – VX – VX-R

Standard Equipment

Optional Equipment

· Sub Tank

· Barn Doors

· Center console fridge

· Rear tire carrier

· Winch and winch bumper

· Diff lock

· Rear AC

· C pillar ladder

Which countries are the best to source these through?

· Spain? Where else?

Used Car sites

**We may have some of this data in different posts and would like to get all this in one place.

Was the 105 ever sold in any countries with the 1HD-FTE and solid axles?

Spain, Greece and South Italy (definitely not Northern Italy) are your best bets for rust free.

The 100 is not so popular that side of the pond. Here the Land Cruiser Prado (more or less a 4Runner) is king. For each LC100 you are getting at least 15 LC120. It's super annoying, because most websites don't differentiate the two - they are both grouped under "Land Cruiser". Have to get creative with price/engine/horse power filters in order to filter out most 120s.

No 105 with factory 1HD-FTE to my knowledge. Also, more or less no 105 in Europe - all are importants.

This should be helpful. Much more interesting info is available on the European TIS website.

Hmm, that is an interesting document. Is it year specific? I thought the early 1HD-FTE 100's had the A442F transmission in them before they transitioned to the A750F in the later years.

I am currently looking for a HDJ100 in Europe...mobile.de is a great website to do a search on. The 105's definitely have a huge price premium on them.

Nope. The 105's either came with the 1HZ or 1FZ-FE motors. If you want the best 100 series (IMO) possible, you are either going to have to do a solid front axle conversion on a HDJ100 or a 1HD-FTE transplant into a 105.

Why do you say southern Italy? They may not be rusty but have you ever driven down there or parked? It's a different animal no traffic laws. Also most southern Italians could never afford a land cruiser.

Keep in mind, the 1fz-fe used in the 100 series is different than the US 1fz-fe used in the 80 series.
I would go for a HZJ105 with a 5 speed manual. Diesel for long range expeditions, one of Toyota’s most numerous and reliable engines , they still make it today for 70 series cruisers, so more than adequate parts availability, few electronics to be fried.

The chassis also shares almost all parts with the 80 series, bushings, steering components, etc
Body panels are shared with the us 100 series, so can easily get replacements.
Not to mention a solid axle;)

This would be the most servicible of the 100 series from a long-term point of view.
IFS hdj100 is nice, but presents fewer advantages over a usdm uzj100.

I don't know if I could deal with 1HZ power on US roads/mountains... even with an added turbo.

Yes. There's a reason for the popularity of the 1HD-FTE transplant into 105's in Australia.
