After the recent purchase I new the first step was to get the ability to play music off my iPhone. On past Toyota and Lexus models I had good luck with GROM products so started with them this time as well. I purchase the GROM IPD4 with Toyota cable from Autotoys along with an extended usb connector to place where the cigarette lighter currently resides. Cost about $120 total shipped.

I started by following the steps others have already posted to remove the headunit to gain access to the plug for the CD changer. These units use the CD changer to connect and control your phone or iPod. I was able to tuck the GROM box next to the driver's side vent and ran the extension cable down where the lighter currently sits. The only delay was getting with the manufacturer to download the correct software for the Nav units. This only takes a couple minutes to load on a usb thumb drive which you then plug in to the unit to load before removing and buttoning everything back up. Initial tests appear to be good with full functionality, song and artist info is displayed on the Nav screen.

Nice work. Would love to see a shot of the screen in action. Can you control (pause, next, back) with the screen?

This provides full control from steering wheel and dash, here is a pick with unit playing podcast and song from iPhone6. GROM has been good in the past to continually improve firmware as new phone versions come out or bugs are found with integrations.

Nice, I may PM you for additional info..thanks.

Man...my 04 looks identical to yours sseaman but for some reason they say that because it's a DVD changer, it won't work. Anybody know the reason for that? I would love some sort of phone integration...
