Forgive the lack continuity here as I'm posting on behalf of my parents who have a 2006 (I owned a 2006 myself until recently) and I'm going based on what they're telling me. Truck is well maintained, recently replaced all AHC components but other than that bone stock.
They've had two issues recently that appear to be unrelated. P2445 is easy enough to research on here and we're on top of that but the shifting issue they are describing is not.
Apparently when trying to accelerate (moderately) from, say 30-50, the RPMS jump up to 5K plus but there's no change in speed for a while. It sounds like there's an eventual shift but if it were a manual trans, I would describe it as a slipping clutch.
Could P2445 somehow be causing the behavior above? To me it sounds like a transmission issue which seems odd to me given how rare those appear to be. The truck has generally been well maintained and driven gently. Up until this point, I haven't heard from them on shifting issues or anything like that.
FWIW, we had a 2004 4Runner limited V8 that was running terribly and not putting power down (struggled to pull a 13' Boston Whaler up the mild incline of a boat ramp), come to find out the cats needed replacing BADLY and once that was done it ran like a champ. Am I way off base to think the Cruiser may be needing new cats too? No codes thrown relating to cat converter issues (O2 sensors etc.) but I'm just spitballing here.
Any thoughts/input would be appreciated! My parents are in CT and on the older side so right now aside from a good Toyota shop they've used 1 hr. away, 'Mud is their best resource!
