My wife and I test drove the 4Runner Sport 4x4 V-8 and an FJCrusier this weekend. She liked the 4Runner, I was leaning toward the FJC. I didn't dislike the 4Runner, and family-wise, the back seat 4 door set-up of the 4Runner works better. I'm 6' 6'" tall and in the FJC that leaves no leg room for passengers with the seat all the way back....which I have trouble argueing around.;)

So, do any of you fine forum folk have experience with this version of 4Runner? Are mods easily available (lifting, etc...)? Reliability? Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
William

I love mine. I don't have a wife or kids to haul around. I bought it because it tows more and comfortably seats more people than an FJ Cruiser, for the same price.

As far as reliability, mine's been trouble-free for all 800 miles of it's life, so far. :D

It sounds like you have answered your own question. Seems like the 4door is a no brainer to me.

The 4runner has a decent aftermarket support. Not as much as the FJ Cruiser, but decent.

The sport model will come with the XREAS suspension which is a hydraulic based stability control system. If you plan on lifting and or removing the suspension skip the sport model and save some money.

I have an 03 Sport Edition with the XREAS. It is lifted (2.5 - 3", Rev Tek + a little more). The XREAS is still in place and works great.

Personally, the single greatest feature is the XREAS. It's like driving a sports car.

I have the 03 V8 SE and my daughter has an 05 V6 SR5. The V6 is every bit as peppy as the V8. I am really impressed by how it responds.

I have an 07 4Runner with the 4.7 V8 SR5 package. ARB bumper, OME lift. It is my daily driver and I cannot complain! :D

The all wheel drive keeps it stuck to the road with the V8 torque and HP. It has the towing capacity to tow my trail truck if need be, in comfort.

Hate to agree with your wife but I would pick the runner as well.
I am just waiting to buy one myself ..someday

better visibility and easier access! Quite a few after market parts available.
