Well inked the deal last night on an '01 LX470. It's gray with 43,000 miles. One owner (a women) and it looks brand new. Most of the Cruisers we had looked at we're mommy wagons - stains on carpet, little worn, etc. No wear on drivers seat-no wrinkling- everything immaculate so you know it was deeply loved. I can buy an extended warranty (4yr/50k) so I would be covered to 93k for $2,200. Dealer and I went over the warranty since I didn't believe it would cover the AHC - yep it does. It would probably be cheap insurance in case I ever have to use it - or would the money be better spend on extras ;) . Any thoughts/feelings/input is appreciated!

i would pass on the warranty unless it's written on lexus corporate paper. $2,200 is the street price for the lexus 7/100 $0 deductible product.

Thanks Ace - I am waiting for a call back from Lexus on getting a 'Lexus' warranty. I did speak to the dealership that serviced it and it never missed one service. Next service is the 45k for $269.00.

there has been some threads recently on extended warranties, you may want to check those...
congrats on the new rig!

Well I heard back from Lexus - they can only give you an extended if you're still under the initial 4-yrs. I did a search and 2garfields recommended AAA. Call them up and since I'm a member I got a 50k warranty for $1600. Covers the AHC and I can go to Lexus directly and that's AAA recommends as well. Love that Search Button!!!!!

check the massive exclusions on the AAA product. pretty much everything electrical inside the cabin, including the nav system, the touch screeen and the levinson sound system.

I don't have Nav so the touch screen isn't too important, but the Levinson -Yikes!
I honestly purchased it for the AHC and Tranny Coverage - plus being able to have Lexus do it. - I don't know why, but the Bronze package covers exhaust manifold, but the Gold package does not! Go Figure.

Here's all the Electrical that's covered -
Alternator; Voltage Regulator; Starter Motor; Starter Solenoid and Starter Drive; Engine Compartment Wiring Harness; Computerized Timing Control Unit; Electronic Ignition Module; Crank Angle Sensor; Knock Sensor; Ignition Switch; Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder; Front and Rear Window Wiper Motor, Washer Pump and Switch; Stop Lamp Switch; Headlamp Switch; Turn Signal Switch; Heater/A.C. Blower Speed Switch; Manual Heater/A.C. Control Head; Horns; Trailer Brake Wiring Harness; Auxiliary Power Supply Wiring; Exterior Cab Lighting; Auxiliary Fuel Tank Switching Unit and Switch; and O-2 Sensors. Automatic Climate Control Programmer; Electronic Instrument Cluster; Mileage Computer; Distributor; Ignition Coil; Electronic Combination Entry System (Does Not Include Transmitters and Receivers for Remote Locks); Cruise Control Module, Transducer, Servo and Amplifier; Powertrain Control Module; Headlamp Motors; Power Window Motor; Power Seat Motor; Power Mirror Motor; Power Antenna Motor/Mast Assembly; Convertible Top Motor; Power Sunroof Motor; Power Window Switch; Cruise Control Engagement Switch; Power Seat Switch; Power Mirror Motor Switch; Rear Defogger Switch; Power Door Lock Actuator and Switch.

coverage.

When you go buy an extend warranty, there are many things to look for. First, if there are many parts in your car don't cover, in that case, don't even brother, you may better off save the money, and use it in something else.

Second, financial stability. You don't want to spend big $$$ for a policy, then find out they are out of business next month. Find out if the extended warramty company is insured or not, there would be a piece of mind.

Third, terms & conditon. READ ALL FIND PRINTS , find out is the policy tranferable, and money back. Let me tell you a stroy, I know someone who had bought a policy for his SUV, a few months, later his SUV was totaled, and he never filed a claim during his ownership. When he called up the extend warraty company, basically what they told him was " You are out of luck"

Of course there are many more thngs to look for, go do a seach on Google, there are many sites will tell you more in detail.:D

Had I purchased my LX by private party, I would have only bought a warranty if it were underwritten by Lexus/Toyota. Also, I would figure that if something goes wrong, that is part of the risk of buying private party, which is why you should pay a few grand less than buying at a lexus/toyota dealer. At least you have all the service records, so you know the rig is in good shape.

We purchased it from a Toyota dealer. She traded it in the Lexus for a new cruiser. I did call her local Lexus place (sticker for next oil change was in the upper left of the windshield) to check on the history - that's how I know she never missed a service. We ended up paying under private party value. We pick it up on Monday.

In that case, if it were me, I'd probably pass on a third party warranty. If you do need some future repair, just remember you got it for a good price. At least you know the service history, so you can be confident it was maintained.

Today, I looked at my PS fluid...it was dark, thick as oil, and smelled burnt. I used a piece of pvc tubing to suck out the fluid from the resevoir (holds about 11 oz to the max cold level; the hole is a little small for a turkey baster), then filled it w/ some valvoline dextron II ATF for older trannies (happened to have a new bottle on the shelf, drove around for a while, then repeated the procedure). As the PS capacity is about 1 qt, less than half is in that little resevoir. The PS fluid is not spec'd to be flushed at all in the FSM, but I was glad I checked.
