Hi all, I need help with my HJ60 I just bought 3 days ago. It was runnin fine with no probs. Its got 324000 kms on it and it looks like its never been wrenched on. I went to got show my father in-law the truck and since I havnt driven a 5spd for a while I turned it over while it was in gear. It leaped forward and I let the key go. I put it in neutral , it started fine but now I have no gears at all. It seems it in neutral.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

The tcase lever should feel like a stiff transmission - shifting out of high, into neutral and then into low. If it feels like nothing is happening then yes there could be a linkage issue. Confirm that the floor lever is actually twisting the shaft sticking out the top of the transfer case. You have pushbutton 4wd right? So the front drive actuation is vacuum not lever controled. Anyhow if the high - neutral - low shaft is in fact still connected to the shift lever, then the problem MIGHT be that the shaft has dropped down a bit into the case and lost contact with the stuff its supposed to move. Put the lever towards neutral and pull up in the tcase control shaft. If you can get 4-5 mm of end play in the shaft, that's too much. My '82 had this problem. A couple of washers on the shaft between the case and the clamp on lever fix the problem. Just don't let the shaft fall into the case when you unclamp the lever to put the washers on it.

Crawl under and make sure the clutch fork is moving. Sometimes when you jump on the peddle the slave will over travel, get cocked and jam. This is epecially true when you are new to the rig. I did exactly this with Charla's FJ40 when I jumped in it to move it at River Shiver. Took a bit of head scraching but not much wrenching.

Good Luck

Turns out the link to the forks was so loose it wasnt shifting at all at the case.

Thanks all for your help.

Ill be a member for life since I have an HJ60, BJ60 and FJ80. Costly buggers when you cant leave things stock.
