So Cal for the moment
Finally got my new bumper/tire carrier finished (well....almost). Mike Francis at Rock Solid Offroad in Hemet, CA (no affiliation...just satisfied!) fabbed it up for me. I had some serious frame rot in the rear, so he took care of this for me and integrated the bumper. Serious beef! Used a Slee spindle, and went for simplicity on the latch with the ol wing- nut. The saftey chain loops are stainless, the reciever probably Class IVish (I want to tow 2500# with 250# tounge wt)...no problem. Mike tested it by jumping up and down on it with all 300# of his girth. Finish is rattle can so when I scar it up on the rocks....

Things to finish up:

Spring loaded pin to lock open.

Hi Lift Mount

Liscense Plate Holder

Rock-Ready Bling!

Next week we'll finish it up and get the Safari Guard Front with winch mounted. More pics will follow!

Looks good! I'm going to build a new rear bumper here soon and really like the way he remade the rear cross members of the frame...

Chris

I agree. I like the rear cross members of the frame. I had a rear bumper put on once...guess I didn't go to the right guy...yours looks real nice!!
Make sure to show us the finished product...

Yeah, 16 bolts to the frame. Its beef. We did remove the inner channels on the rear frame rails and the rear crossmember. Both were rusted beyond repair. The tube replaces the old rear crossmember (poorly designed OEM anyhow, you dent the bumper and it goes right into the frame. I think this setup should be real strong.

Mike says my truck reminds him of his ol' wagon. After the upcoming Safari Guard they'll be twin 87 Silver 60s. But i guess he hasn't done much wagon work latley. The bumper was a one off and took him a bunch more time than he figured; he's not sure he'd do another, but I bet he would. He still does sliders for the 6x fairly often. He's also got a troopy, a 55, and a 60 out back waiting for some love....

Yeah, Mike liked the belizequickfix 'crossmember' we had welded in the last day before heading this way too. But he chucked the shock crossmember before I could save it for posterity. You know, the bung-weld on that held. It was the oem piece that failed again! He also wants me to get rid off my empty can of a muffler and go flowmaster or something. I just can't part with it even if it means going deaf. On a positive note my new windshield has the cool blue sun strip at the top. Very old school. How come you don't see those around much anymore?

Airlift the piggy out here, we'll get a bumper for ya, then scrape off all the paint on some rocks. You ever get the sliders happening?
:flipoff

....bout the same as with clotheslines....

One day soon that tree should have a wreath on it, another 33 MTR that is.

Keeping the truck for now, have to spend some money on a new house / camper. Have a bid on ebay right now! I've also decided my next truck or engine will be diesel. Could forsee a cummins in this 60's future.

Will post some front bumper pics next week unless I get sidetracked by dragging a new house around off that new bumper! Tomorrow I put in a brake controller.... This is gonna be one sloooooooow truck!

You mean scrape all that primer off on the rocks! :D
I could drive the pig out there if it weren't for this thing called a desk job, no need for an airlift but if I stay in this deskjob much longer they may have to airlift me to the hospital!

I am trying to talk the wife into both!

Hey man...what kind of camper are you looking at? my parents are giving away our "old" camper....too bad you are living on the other coast!! They just got a new one and are just giving away the old one 'cause they don't want to put up with all the BS of selling it. it's pretty sweet my bro and i have taken it on a couple of road trips...anyway you can PM me if you have any questions...not sure if they've given it away yet...

Looking at full fiberglass ones. Scamp or similar. 16-17ft at the most. The 60 isn't a great tow vehicle so you have to keep it light.

I love that jefe would drive his soa, tbi, welded piggy all the way to the west coast to wheel! You need a new job! I spent today hiking the hills in SoCal working on my tan. Even got the work Trailbreaker muddy. Better than the Exploder I suppose. The world is my office!

Hasn't Em started making the big money yet so you can retire and we can open a Toy Shop and go wheeling for 'research'? Get her on the ball! And tell her I say hey....
