That what i do with 168K -'97 LX450 7 3/4 quarts of Mobil synthetic 10w-30 & 1 quart of Mobil synthetic 15w-50.

I'll ask you, why are you mixing oils? I know that raventai has a reason and I know what the reason is, but am curious what yours is.

Raventai,

I didn't notice the fuel dilution in your delvac run previously. I think that combined with the FI cleaner may have been the reason for the high lead in your first run. It will be interesting to see what this next run looks like.

That looks pretty good-especially since that's what I run in my 80. I will be switching soon to 0w-40 since I've got a trip planned to Death Valley where last year we had a bunch of sub freezing starts. Interesting that 15w-50 has as much of the zinc anti-wear agent as the Delvac 1 used previously. 5w-30 oils, I think have much less. Good info, thanks for posting.

Cary, I have heard that FI cleaners can skew results, I am starting to think it may be possible, there was some Fuel dilution in the D1 run but not much, hard to tell how much difference as one is .5% the other <.5% off the low end of the scale, flash point was the same, but Blackstone flagged it on the D1 and not on the 15w-50, I guess they expected the D1 to have a higher flash point? I guess the past report was not that bad and the small difference could be caused by a small amount of fuel,

Just had a thought, I wonder if my fuel pump problems were on the D1 OCI, need to find that post and check the dates

Anyway I think this shows M1 15w-50 is a good oil to use in warm weather, it may become my summer oil,

I have to admit that not all the reasons for the mix are pure, part of it is I am a cheap-skate and could not waste the 2 quarts I had left over, but it is also a popular mix on BITOG and M1 10w-30 alone may be a little thin for my winters. Defiantly looking foreword to the next sample. I hope it continues the downward trend :bounce:

Cruiserdrew, yes the 15w-50 has as much zinc (I assume as ZDDP) as D1, it also has moly witch D1 does not, but D1 is suppose to be a wonder oil, don’t know if the oil or conditions (fuel ect) are the reason for the drop? D1 is a pain to get and slightly more expensive I am not sure that I will ever try it again

Don't let anyone over at bitog know, but I think Delvac 1 is overated for use in gas motors. Prior to M1 0w-40 in Supersyn, I could see the advantage, but now there is no need to use it in a gas motor.

Understood. Think I will start stocking 0w-40 for the next OCI and see how it does, hopefully over time I can stock enough for an oil change and make-up, there is no refuting that it performed excellently under your conditions. maybe I can repeat those results.

Cary,

Reason that i mixed with 15w-50 because i have hi-mileage.

So why would you mix the two because of your mileage?

heat & humidity?

what factor does humidity play in oil performance - if it does and all?

My '96 LC spent it's formative years up in Connecticut (cold winters, warm albeit brief summers) and now has been in South Florida (sub-tropical clime) since 2001. Perhaps a non-issue? thanks, Tom.

humidity in itself is not a bad thing, if you get condensation in the engine and it is not boiled off on a regular basis (short trips) it can form acids in the oil. there are adatives in oil that comabt acid, they are used up in this process so they only last so long, hence the TBN measure, "Total Base Number"

also himud air does not cool as well as dry air, 100% humidity air has 5/8ths the density of o% humidy air, or just over half.
