Finally got around to finishing the sound system and getting my alarm installed in my BJ60. First, I got a guy at a stereo shop to make new rear cargo panels from wood to support the 6x9 Sony XPLOD speakers for $60 cash. He covered them in a tan material (poop brown wasn't available). Aside from the bolts being more visible on the lighter fabric, I really like it. Along with the Sony XPLOD deck and Kenwood door speakers up front, it's a decent sound system. Nothing high end, just Wal-Mart and Best Buy components but the deck has an iPod interface that recharges my iPod and lets me navigate the iPod playlists and songs through the deck. It's easier to find your selection on the iPod first, then plug it in.

The alarm has a valet setting, start kill/immobilizer, a really loud siren, flashes the parking lights when the alarm gets set off, and also leaves them on for 30 seconds when the system is disarmed. Supposedly that makes it easier to find your truck in a parking lot at night, although my smurf blue BJ60 is usually quite easy spot in a crowd anyways!:D

I still use "The Club" on the steering wheel. It's not foolproof, but along with the alarm, and red flashing LED on the dash (next to the rear defrost switch), it should make my truck a bit more theft resistant. I suppose if a pro really wants it, he'll find a way to steal it. Chances are, when I move to British Columbia, a slightly rusty 1984 Land Cruiser in the land of rust free west coast cars won't look that appealing.

Nice!! you can lose the club if you have the starter kill option correctly installed. No crackhead is going to spend the time or me smart enough to by pass it. Which Alarm did you buy? Go buy actuators for like $50-60 and add that to the alarm for a little keyless entry.

Yeah, I know... but I figured a little overkill can't hurt! :D Maybe someone won't see the flashing red LED on the dash, but will see the club since it's more visible. Plus, putting on The Club is just one more thing to slow down a potential thief. While the alarm is blaring and he's trying to cut the steering while, maybe a cop will drive by...

The alarm is by "Crimestopper" and if I had power door locks, you're right, they could be hooked up so that doors could be unlocked with the remote control. Maybe later... there are a few more essential things to take care of first...

Thats what the acutators are for. Instant doorlocks. Super easy on those rigs and any of the toyota trucks for that matter.

Hmmm... sounds interesting. Where do you get the actuators?

The guy who installed the alarm said it would be a pain to install them. He did some on an Isuzu Trooper and said it was hard, and figured my Land Cruiser would be about the same. That would be great if it was an easy install - I'd love to have the doors lock and unlock with the alarm!

No way, can of corn. I could do both doors in an hour and all four in an hour and a half. When I get my rig back and start on the interior I will do a write up with pics.

Crimstopper should have advanced to the point of not needing separate outboard relays to tie this into the Alarm system. Its been years since I installed a Crimestopper alarm but I remember them to be good quality.

The MES kit for $79.99 looks really good and the quality is supposed to be good too. I should look into that once I get a few more small but essential repairs checked off my list. Looking forward to your write-up. The Crimestopper alarm looks to be good quality. To be honest, I didn't shop around much, and it's been years since I bought an alarm so I took the shop's word for it that it was a good alarm.

They've been around for years and My old boss used to swear by them. (I used to be a Car stereo installer here in town)
