Finally got around to finishing the sound system and getting my alarm installed in my BJ60. First, I got a guy at a stereo shop to make new rear cargo panels from wood to support the 6x9 Sony XPLOD speakers for $60 cash. He covered them in a tan material (poop brown wasn't available). Aside from the bolts being more visible on the lighter fabric, I really like it. Along with the Sony XPLOD deck and Kenwood door speakers up front, it's a decent sound system. Nothing high end, just Wal-Mart and Best Buy components but the deck has an iPod interface that recharges my iPod and lets me navigate the iPod playlists and songs through the deck. It's easier to find your selection on the iPod first, then plug it in.
The alarm has a valet setting, start kill/immobilizer, a really loud siren, flashes the parking lights when the alarm gets set off, and also leaves them on for 30 seconds when the system is disarmed. Supposedly that makes it easier to find your truck in a parking lot at night, although my smurf blue BJ60 is usually quite easy spot in a crowd anyways!
I still use "The Club" on the steering wheel. It's not foolproof, but along with the alarm, and red flashing LED on the dash (next to the rear defrost switch), it should make my truck a bit more theft resistant. I suppose if a pro really wants it, he'll find a way to steal it. Chances are, when I move to British Columbia, a slightly rusty 1984 Land Cruiser in the land of rust free west coast cars won't look that appealing.
