Anyone up for a Sunday run? Options in Florence J., Table Mesa or open to suggestions.

Carl

Don't know if I can make it this weekend, off to SEMA in the morning and tons of honey do's. But I have been thinking about running Sunflower Mine.

Sunflower is rated "Difficult" in Wells' book, but only the second part. I've seen some photos from a jeep run and it looks to be a moderate challenge over some rocky creekbed type stuff, but not too bad. It is up the beeline a ways, not too far from town.

Kevin - is my reading right or is it a "locker and armor required" trail?

I can't remember if I last ran that in my Nissan or the 80, but I do remember spotting a stock 80 with open diffs and running boards through there with no damage or straps needed. It wasn't that bad- but of course every trail can change with a good storm.

As far as running, I'm hoping to get all my TRE's changed Saturday, then do some 'testing' Sunday, so keep us informed!

Sunflower was an adopt-a-trail of a club I was in a while back and even though it does change alot I wont hesitate driving your lifted FJ on it. The creek bed and 1 steep up hill is all that can slow you down. In all the times I have ran it I have never seen anyone turn back even in a stock vehicle. But I have seen stock vehicles take the winch on the long uphill. Hey Nissan's run it.....

Sounds like solid endorsements. Hopefully someone who has run it before will come, otherwise we'll have to find our way;)

It's been the Honeywell/Allied signal adopt a trail for at least 16 years that I know of. The section from the bridge, through the creek and up to the crossroads at the top of the long hill anyhow.

It can be easy to difficult depending on the conditions left by the last rains. High clearance is advised in the creek, else you may be banging your bottom. :D

A locker is helpful getting out of the creek and started on the long hill.

Tow straps could be required for lower vehicles if Ma nature has been busy lately.

Thanks, Cliff. I think we all have the clearance, I always carry a strap, and I know my skidplates work:bounce: :bounce2:

I figure we can meet Sunday AM about 8:30ish at the Baja in Fountain Hills or at the gas station (Circle K?) at McKellips and 87. Does that work for anyone interested in going?

Baja works for me, McKellips would be a lot of backtracking in my case.

Cliff the Roadrunners club has Horse Camp Seep down where the log cabin was before it was burnt. I think its FR25a does that sound right?

Sunflower sounds great to me. Since I'm coming of A.J., I'll just wait at the intersection of Bush Highway and Beeline Highway till I see you guys and I'll just fall in line. What channel on the CB will we be using?

Yeah, Bill - you'll see me from a mile away, right;)

Channel 4 sound good?

If you're talking about the cabin in the valley, after the long hill, on a creek with a mine shaft cross the road from it? Then I think that's on FR201a according to my map. The Honeywell piece is on FR25a (creek) and FR3722 (hill). That cabin site is usually our lunch stop if all is going well.

Put me in as a definite maybe. I love that trail, however, I threw my back out last weekend on the ATV and not sure if I'm up to more bouncing yet.

OK, the trail is Sunflower Mine, Wells lists it as "difficult", maybe for a stock RAV4, I would call it moderate, 3.0 maybe? Up to the mine is easy, the creek bed after the mine may cause some bumper banging on stocker trucks if not driven carefully. The area is scenic with lots of old mining equipment.

Meet at the Baja gas station across from the casino on Beeline HWY, a couple of miles after Shea Blvd turn off, at about 8:30 AM. For the way east valley guys, meet at the Bush HWY/Saguaro Lake turn off, look for us to blow by about 9 AM.

Bring lunch and drinks.
