Here is my newest idea. I’ve always mounted the 7way trailer plugs on the bumper, (’89 fj62 & 03 Tacoma). But the 100 has its own problem. It’s a plastic bumper with metal reinforcements. So placement isn't an easy choice like on the fj62 and the Taco. I have access to a hydraulic punch (which I had to use on the 62) but being the bumper is plastic, I didn’t want the 7way’s screws pulling in on the bumper causing it to look distorted. So mounting it in the middle area was ruled out.
So after lots of thought and a few beers, (or was this order reversed?).
I finally decided to do this. There are a few holes already in the metal part of the bumper. (A big thanks to spressomon for the pictures & FSM detail of the bumper).
So after looking at it, there seemed like only one place the 7way can be mounted. I used one of the holes that allowed me to have the wires go through the bumper frame.
I used the original mount as a backer plate on the plastic to give me something for the screws to bite onto.
The only drawback to this design is that your trailers wire might get tight while turning right. But my cable is plenty long enough so not an issue with mine.
