Great pics! I make a few trips out there a year and need to check this trail out. I smashed up my driver side door last time I was out there. It is difficult to escape damage on some of the trails/notches with a larger vehicle. Thanks for posting pics.
I found this 80 for sale on another forum and thought someone here might be interested. it does not appear to have the factory lockers but I could be wrong.
Once again I have no affiliation.

your rig looks great on the 37s. Also the two rigs in the other shots look good too. It is nice to see them out on the trail. When I had mine up in Big Bear I never once saw another 80. Seeing two built like the ones posted would have made me think I was hallucinating.
I will either be towing in a Dodge 2500 Crew cab 2WD or a 1975 Peterbilt COE long wheel base with a hauler bed. Neither are the best tow rigs for those conditions but not the worst either. I have managed to get most places with the dodge in recent years. Do you think either one of those...
I am not sure if this applies to anyone here but I tow my rig and the event organizer stated a tow rig will not make it to the base camp. I may have to get as close as possible and just commute to base camp.
Really nice write up Dave. Good info. I always wonder about the history of the lake when we go to Truckhaven and wake up to the vista of the bright blue lake in the background.
I am going to go ahead and jump in on the love fest. As I have been improving my mini truck in the last six months, both Eric and Jay have been immensely helpful in providing advice and completing work on my truck. They have helped me with everything from general tuning of the engine to...
On Wednesday I was at the Sire bar in Riverside and spotted a white 80 with a mild lift, prob 2.5", ARB front bumper and a snorkel. I think it might have a two tone scheme with white and gold. Is this anyone in this forum?
I also consistently see an all white 80 in the Orangecrest area...
Do you live in the Orangecrest area of Riverside? That street looks familiar. If so I only live about 2 miles from you. Your rig also looks familiar but I am seeing more and more 80s in my area now so maybe I have it confused.
Definitely - to duplicate this build now would cost more in parts and labor than I paid for the truck. That was part of the way I justified the purchase to myself.:D
There is a ton of crap on CL. Lots of mini trucks with 4 different tires, 5" of body lift, no front DS, 4 different color...
I can only find a few pics of Big Bear for some reason. I will find the rest and post up. The last two are of the owner's manual which was still in the truck and the receipt from Marlin.
Although I have had this truck nearly a year now I have not posted any pics of it on the forum. After I sold my 80, I made the mistake of perusing Craigslist for Toyota 4x4s to see what was out there. Well, I found this rig and made another mistake of going to look at the rig. I expected to find...
Nice pics - You hit some fun trails. I'm sure you have a new appreciation of the 80s capability if this was your first time through. I was just up there the week before Forest Fest and it appears that the Gatekeeper on John Bull has already been modified. It looks as if some of the obstacles...
Any idea what time the plane will take off at? I live near March and was going to drive down there to see this specimen. I will have some young ones at my house today that might find that plane highly amusing. They are impressive - I have only seen one though since I have lived over here.
Jiggawu on here is 6'1 and has a d-cab tacoma as a daily driver. That truck went places stock that I have seen other, more built vehicles struggle with. It is a TRD with a rear locker. He is comfortable in it but then again he isn't 6'6" of man meat.
I have a car hauler and tow my mini truck...
How nice of a bike are you looking for? I have an older trek road bike with full classic dura ace that I don't ride anymore. I will check the size for you. It is older but fully functional, rides well and is in good shape overall.
That truck looks like it is located on Orozco street in the "Whitegate" area of Riverside. If thats the case, it is an upscale area and the rig was probably maintained fairly well. I have found the more affluent the seller of vehicle is, the more likely they did not skimp on maintenance due to...
