Stepping up? to an 80 Series

Well, I passed on the 92. Looked at it and while I was impressed by the automatic trans, no dents or rust, this thing will need a lot of repairs. Both knuckles leaking, super low on coolant . looks like a leak somewhere on the upper radiator tank or hoses? severe oil leak under the front of the...

Stepping up? to an 80 Series

The 100 series I see for sale would include a car payment. 10-20k. Even the Lexus. They are nice, just not in my price range.

Stepping up? to an 80 Series

I'm going to Reno today to look at the 92. I'm not as jazzed as I was a couple of days ago after reading all of the comments here so I will be looking at this rig with both eyes open. My whole decision on the upgrade is based on weather to spend the money on my current rig which includes a...

Stepping up? to an 80 Series

I hear ya But the wife says I can't have both. LOL. I have budgeted a new paint job, OME lift and ARB rear locker for the 60. Like I said, I've grown attached to this thing and want a rig that not everyone has, IE 4Runner, that I can do Death Valley, Mojave Trail, that sort of stuff but be able...

Stepping up? to an 80 Series

I'm at a crossroads here. I currently own a clean stock 1985 FJ60, with 240k miles on it, which I've owned for the last seven years. and now have the funding to start building it into an overland rig. This truck has been trouble free and dependable and I just love the classic design of the 60...

    life expectancy of a 1992 80 series???

I'm going to go look at an 85 fj60 as well. It has less miles and in the same condition as the 92. It also has the 5 speed stick, which I like but my wife prefers the automatic. The only reservations I have about the 60 is it's "old" and being sold by a used car dealership, unlike the 92 which...

    life expectancy of a 1992 80 series???

Yes. California smog laws say any vehicle 1976 or newer. BTW here is a picture of the 92 I'm looking at.

    life expectancy of a 1992 80 series???

There is also an 84 60 series just as clean as the 92, with a five speed standard shift and 160k for $3,700 at a dealership, but being a carburated engine has me worried about future smog issues in California. I need a replacement for my Jeep Wagoneer which is just about dead with 300K.

    life expectancy of a 1992 80 series???

I'm new to this site and have a question. I'm going to look at a 92 L/C for sale by the original owner with 291,000 miles on it. The engine and trans have not been rebuilt, 2 in lift, custom bumper, winch, 2 new batteries, 110 volt Inverter, new tires with an extra set of studded tires included...
