i have heard of a few (albeit very few) 1FZ heads cracked. i think the oil cooler is due regardless, so i may start the tear down there and if i don't find a problem, then tear it the rest of the way down.
it seems pretty clear cut, to me at least, that i'm leaking coolant into the oil. i'm just wondering if there's any way to determine if the leak is specifically coming from the oil cooler vs HG/head. one way or the other, i gotta tear something down to find out, i guess.
not sure what happened with the pics. some were small and some large, but regardless, the plugs all looked normal/identical to me. none were steam cleaned.
thanks, doug. i've got the dye and i think my buddy has the smaller cap for the radiator pressurizer. need to find a covered area to start the tear down, as i've moved since my first HG job and don't have a garage:mad:. hope to line something up tomorrow.

been tracking down mysterious coolant loss for the past few weeks, that i think i've solved.
let me back up by saying that 3 years ago i replaced my HG and the truck has run great since then. i've had a scanguage for years and watch the water temp on it almost as much as i watch the...
curtis,
this may be a stupid question, but did you leave the window in the up position when you unbolted the arm from the clamp at the base of the window? it looks that way from the picture. if so, i'm trying to figure out what holds the window up (or did you somehow clamp it in the up...
dave,
i'd like to know too. all i know is, after i let her get up to operating temp with the cap off and let the air bubbles out, she's been running great. it didn't stop the reving until i shut her down, put the radiator cap back on, then started her back up again. go figure. the low idle...
burped the radiator this am for about 15 min. shut her down, put the cap back on and fired her up and the rev-ing went away!!
the tach went up to ~1500 rpm, then settled down. down to like 450-500 rpm and is trying to stall. with the a/c on, it bumps up to 700 rpm or so and runs great. is this...
