If any water made it into the snorkel, it would only get as far as the air filter housing where gravity would pull it down to the catch drain. If you've never seen that part on your rig, check it out, its pretty cool.

I too like the idea of wrapping the main tube back a little more for better protection.
Here's how mine turned out... I can't count the times that I've saved my body and lights by having outer protection, as the trails in Oregon can get tight...
FWIW, I noticed replacing the fuel filter (from the bottom) would have been an easy job during my recent PHH job. I was wishing I had a fuel filter on hand as I was right there!

I finally got around to doing the PHH... 180K miles on the clock.
Bought the kit from index but decided to replace the metal bypass tube as well with a full length silicone hose. Followed some others' advice and wrapped it around the brake booster.
