I had plenty of tongue weight. And yes, not bothering to compress the suspension is fine until you end up in an emergency situation. In my case, the coupler broke off, and so having to two suspensions cycling at the same time increased the difficulty of recovering the combo.
I'm not saying...
It would be comparable. I towed my 1963 Mercury Comet from Sand Diego to Virginia beach with my 80 on 33s. It was slow getting out of California, but did fine through everything else, as I took the southern route to avoid the high mountains. I also towed my FJ55 through most of Idaho and...

We've been over this before. Please take careful note of the teflon application and landtank's intake tube height mods.
Eh... not exactly.

You'll reach A/C cutoff temp before that needle moves on a stock gauge. I did the temp gauge mod on all three of my 80s. If I bought another one, it would be the first thing I did.
If you wade through some of the extraneous discussion in this thread, it covers most of it

That said, If you are going to keep the ABS functional, you'll need to use the AV or wire up a workaround to disable the...
A key difference is the AWD characteristic of the 80. The front end pulling and the Viscous coupler combine to make the aussie locker almost invisible on road. I have over 150k miles on my aussie locker with not so much as a hiccup...
Also, for @ToyotaDon I find this very useful as I can run aux lights and high beams out in the country, and can shut things down to normal low beams with a standard flick of the wrist, vs shutting off high beams and fumbling for the aux switch all while stuffed into a corner on a mountain...
Hi all,
I'll try to help here, but two issues.
1. My art sucks
2. My explaining sucks
I have my lights set up with a three way switch (re-purposed rear heater switch) that operates the way you guys want it to. It has been a few years (more like 10) but I'll do my best.
In my case, the...
Lol! I once worked on an old USMC 5 ton truck (m813) that would blow the horn as the steering wheel was rotated to 5 o'clock. turns out that there was a copper rod in the steering column that was warped and would ground out when it hit 5 o'clock.
Where in VA are you located? Looks like somewhere with a good bit more terrain than the tidewater area, but there are a few clubs that are active, depending on where you are. Also, the NC club is putting on a run toward the end of April at Uwharrie national forest. It would be a great...
Nice!
Is that a custom 3 link with coilovers? Did you design your own or use one of the ones here? Also, how are the freeway manners?
Regardless, sweet rig and welcome!
Try starting it in Neutral instead of park.
Then hold the key to start while you cycle through the gears. This will sometimes work if the NSS is degraded, but not completely open. (i.e disconnected)
Relax folks.
The only reason one "needs" bigger tires is if you are not getting where you want to go on your current tires. The set of of the OP's rig is indeed ideal for his stated use and budgetary constraints. Going 315s will cause fuel mileage to decrease and uphill speed to suffer on the...
Also, the factory turn signals are still plainly visible with the ARB installed, so if you prefer to not mess with the wiring, don't bother hooking them up. I am very comfortable with wiring but I haven't bothered hooking mine up and the bumper has been on the 80 for ~15 years.

The short answer is that you are being disrespectful of current and past contributors to this forum by asking the same question that has been asked dozens of times before. Your "new" question occupies bandwidth and storage space, thereby...
Lol! I searched for "what is the specific reason that my 80 series land cruiser gets such bad fuel mileage" There is totally NOTHING about fuel mileage in this whole entire forum. This forum sucks....:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Just a quick note, setting caster at less than factory specs seems to work fine for a lot of folks, and in most cases nobody notices. I have found that in emergency maneuvers, the truck is VERY hard to control when you have less caster than is called for. YMMV

If you do the part time conversion with manual hubs from Slee Offroad, you may save a little bit on fuel economy. I wouldn't think that you'll need lower gear ratios unless you will be rock crawling. For long distance travel, these are already geared low enough.
