Those rear springs are designed for a lot of weight. The bed is currently empty; load up 1,000 lbs. and the springs should flatten out a bit.
It will be some work (and dirty!) but I would start with removing 2 leafs from each rear spring pack. You will be reducing the load capacity of the...
Hi all,
Breadbaker, check out this thread for ideas:

The Rancho add a leaf swap is well proven under FJ40s; no reason it should not work under a BJ74.
Yes, replacing all of your springs and...
Hi all,
It will not hurt your part-time 4wd system to drive in 4 High on loose gravel roads. 4 High probably gives better control than 2 High on such a road surface at high speeds, though whether one really notices is a personal call. Your fuel consumption will be (slightly) affected...
Hi all,
IIRC, the HD 70 Series SWB uses the same dimension rear leaf springs as does the 60/62 Series wagons. Front leaf springs between the two vehicles have different part numbers.

Hi all,
Temuulen, cool HZJ70! :)
I am confused about your question. You ask about installing leaf springs, is this on your 70 Series TLC, or on a trailer?
Both are about the same: remove the old parts, and install the new parts. The Toyota service manual will say the torque...
Hi all,
albertom, cool rig! :)
Yes, diesel 70 Series are quite sought after here in North America, but repair parts can be hard to get and expensive in comparison to the Toyota gas (petrol) engines used in Land Cruiser wagons (FR60, FJ62, FJ80, FZJ80) sold in the USA in the 1980s and 90s...
Hi all,
James Marr, head north to Seattle and TorFab. Tor drives a HJ74 and has experience with Toyota turbo diesel engines.
Hope you have a great road trip in North America!

Hi all,
IIRC either of these two kits from MarlinCrawler should work for your LJ70. BTW, the LJ/RJ Series use HiLux axle assemblies.

If you are up to a challenge, I would...
Hi all,
Cory, there is no such thing as a "spring over" kit. Doing this sort of suspension change requires some custom work.
Where are you located? There may be a Land Cruiser shop in your area that can perform this kind of suspension conversion.
For the home mechanic, lots of the info on...
Hi all,
NSALT, I would suggest re-posting this question, a little more clearly written, in the "Hard Core" section. Think you would get a better response rate over there.

Hi all,
Reddave, thanks for sharing your new rig with us!
A friend of mine has a '89 LJ73 that has a Toyota 3.4L V-6 he swapped in after the original 2L-TE died.
