    intermittent starter issue

After doing all these things and still having intermitent problems for over a year, I recently discovered a ground wire coming out of the harness at the fuse panel. I was able to tighten the bolt holding the wire and have not had issues for a couple weeks.

    Real time help

should be able to hear a ball rattling around if not it's probably gummed up. Carb cleaner should clean it up. Should be able to blow through one way and not the other. That should be the flow direction. Air should flow from the block up around to the air filter. hth

    Tire carrier

I've done the swap. Seems like the lower bolt pattern was similar but the upper is larger than the '75 flat style. You have a '77 so any tubular carrier should fit. You might need the hardware along the bottom channel. There should be a rubber bumper and a hook to clamp the carrier. hth

How to take the rattle out of stock rear tire carrier?

I was ready to pay a machinist to make brass bushings to make it right. He told me to pound the pins out and wrap teflon tape(for pipe threads) where the plastic bushings used to be. It's worked really well for 6 or 7 years packing a 33x10.5 mud terrain. Heck of a lot cheaper. The grinding of...

Is this rust a deal killer?

what kind of deal are you passing up with very little rust? I would look at the rear tub as I see diamond plate in the rear bed. Is it replacing the floor or just welded over more rust?

    1981 FJ40 bed question about holes.....No pic.

If they're rubber plugs they might be for drainage. I used to have similar but somewhat larger plugs in the footwells of both driver and passenger sides so you could hose out and drain or pull after deep water crossings . I do recall some plugs in the back also....yep just went out with a flash...

    Fogging Up

make sure your Fresh Air vent is pulled out. If not, you are recirculating the same air over and over and the moisture builds up on the windows. Works for our 60 and the 40. hth, Don

    Top Off & Seatbelts....

Mark, I've been removing the top every year for 25 years off my 5/81 cruiser. My belts have always been mounted to the roll bar and I have these funny little rubber plugs in that spot on my hard top. Always wondered what they might be for. After reading this post I had to go out and check that...
