A Guide To Installing Hard Top Windows

Holy thread revival! Its been a while since I've been on and I completely forgot about this thread. I'm glad to see Potato Launchers knowledge is still helping out mudmembers! Nick

Project: "Not going to do a frame off" Frame Off

Tyler - I'm glad my thread helped you out and hopefully it will continue to help you on your build. Sorry I haven't got any pics up yet. The last year I have been working in a different city from where my cruiser is, so I haven't had access to it as much as I did. That should change in...

Project: "Not going to do a frame off" Frame Off

Thanks Thank u. It was my favorite color by far. The latest is I've been driving it and haven't done any other work to it which has been nice. I fabbed the transfer case and tranny mounts. I used the Matt Beir mounts which are stout. As far as the final shifter, I will one day swap...

Stepping up to a Vortec (LM7)

Make sure you have some fresh air circulation in the glove box for the ECM. I had mine in there and in the summer it would get too hot and cause problems. Specifically, it kept my 700R4 tranny from shifting into overdrive. Once I relocated the ECM to underneath the glovebox, no more problems. Nick

Quick Question on Painless Wiring Harness

Cruiserclaude, I hope my PM's were helpful and made sense. My painless harness was wasn't too bad to install. Once you read the directions and look it over and break it down by section (engine, cab, and rear) it goes pretty quick. When I bought mine they had a $100 rebate and that made it...

Project: "Not going to do a frame off" Frame Off

Thanks man. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago! It was a TON of work but completely worth it. It is such a fun vehicle to have. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Thanks. I replied to your PM on the height which is around 82-83" w/ the hardtop. Oh and since you used your first...

Would anyone be interested in these?

Holly thread revival Batman. Sorry I didn't get back to you guys. When I first posted, I didn't have enough interest in them so I didn't have any more cutout. Nick

SBC 350 gets hot above 50MPH. Why?

Yes there are points where the shroud is close to the fins, maybe 3/4" or so. I'll start by taking the shroud off and see what that does. Nick

SBC 350 gets hot above 50MPH. Why?

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back w/ pics, work has been crazy. So I snapped a few shots, and noticed my water pump is totally rusted on the outside! It wasn't like this before, would too much heat cause this? This water pump was new when I put it on about a 1.5 ago. Also, my...

SBC 350 gets hot above 50MPH. Why?

As far as the mixture, I'm not getting any check engine lights on when I drive it. Both my tranny and power steering coolers are in the middle of my radiator, I may try moving them and see what happens. My lower hose is a 1.5 year old Gates green stripe hose, I'll check it, but that...

SBC 350 gets hot above 50MPH. Why?

Thanks for the replies. I do have a serpentine setup which is why I have the reverse rotation water pump and fan. I have a trans cooler and power steering cooler in front of the radiator. Give me a quick run down on the proper technique for bleeding the cooling system. I'll try to get...

SBC 350 gets hot above 50MPH. Why?

I have a 1970 with a SBC 350 and 700r4. I'm cooling it with a griffen 19x26 aluminum radiator and a flexalite mech fan with med duty fan clutch. I have full homemade shroud and a new reverse flow water pump. It runs at about 190* when cruising around town under 50Mph. At low speeds or crawling...

Project: "Not going to do a frame off" Frame Off

I was pleased with my belts. The locked up when they should have but still gave me freedom when I needed it. I do wish they had a little more tension on them, but all in all I am happy. I have some pictures of how I mounted them earlier in my thread. I am like you, a horizontal bar behind...

My Homemade rear swing out carrier build

The latch is working great, very strong. I ran it through Moab and twisted and stressed the cruiser, and the latch never budged. I think I paid about $55 for it. Building my bumper was one of favorite parts of the entire cruiser build. Nick

Hardtop removal idea using FJ 8274 winch

Two 10 year olds may be able to lift it a few inches off the truck but they are screwed after that. I just took it off at Moab last week and we used 4 abled bodied guys to lift it off and over the spare tire in the back and even with that it was awkward. I am looking for ease of removal by...

Hardtop removal idea using FJ 8274 winch

What I didn't include in my detail was that I would use 4 additional eye bolts attached to the ceiling joist. Once the winch has hoisted the hardtop up, I would attached the top to the 4 eyebolts using some extra ratchet straps to secure it in place then remove the winchline, shackles, and...
