YES!!!!! VICTORY IS MINE!
one 14" pipe wrench, a can of Liquid Wrench, and a few "new" words later and the old TRE's came off with nothing less than a full 200 lbs. of body weight applied to the wrench end...capital suggestion on that tool, without which, I'd still be out in the shop cursing ;)...
excellent! baby's on board now....many thanks!
now if I can only keep the tie rod from rotating in the vise (my biggest problem to date, save the seizing) I'll be all set - "blue torque" doesn't seem to be tight enough ???
this board ROCKS!!!

Hey Klunky Chris,
can you elaborate on this technique a bit? you lost me a bit on the placement of the looooong pipe...are you sliding it over the TRE itself with the connecting rod secured in the vise, or do you have the TRE secured in the vise with the looooong pipe going where??? Sounds like...
I could use a little helpful input here, as I'm quickly exhausting my bag of tricks. Here's the breakdown:
O.K., the entire steering linkage is sitting on the work bench, the linkage tube is secured ("blue-torqued") in the vise, all of the ends have been doused repeatedly with Liquid Wrench for...
no issues provided you can get about 6 good turns on the threads to achieve a good torque down....
running 1/4" up front on the '60 without any problems -- your wheels will just be extended that much further out of the wheel wells....be sure you torque to spec and recheck periodically

for the amount of work involved, do the whole thing at once. you're going to have to drop the spring assemblies to get the bushings and shackles anyways, so why do it twice?
shocks? - yes, these you can do now - ditto on Pimp's suggestion to find a set that works for both stock & lifted...
  !!!!
uh, I think I'd say: :whoops:
good god man!, that's where you cook the food that you eat! holy toxic tacos.....
is your wife still speaking with you?

Devo,
I don't think the set I have are 5150's -- check the part numbers I posted above to see if they will work.
The PO had installed them at about 101K when he took the OME suspension off and went totally stock. I put the OME back on and went with new OME shocks, etc..., etc... at about 126K...
not sure if they will fit, but I've got a full set of Bilisteins that I pulled off my '60 when I did my suspension that I'm looking to sell....
Part #'s: B46-0247 & B46-1132 (may just be the last 4 digits of each)
they have approximately 30K on them, came off of a stock set up, and were...
yes Pimp, but you're "special" ;) and have a very unique Cruiser stable to prove it..... :flipoff2: who me?!, what?, jealous?? NEVER! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!......uhhhh, nice rigs.....

O.K., you've got the armour on the front end, now just add some sliders, cut the rear quarters back and add some rear bars, and go HAVE FUN!!
Short of some serious rock crawling, that truck should go just about anywhere the way you've built it out... GO MAN, GO!!!
??? a '40 as highway daily driver ???....... no offense, but you've picked the wrong vehicle for your stated purpose, especially for the amount of miles you plan on driving each week. It's not built for, nor was it ever intended to driven extensively in that capacity. It will get you through...
